**JOB TITLE**: Discipline Alternative Education
Program - Elementary Aide

**REPORTS TO**: Assistant Principal

**WAGE/HOUR STATUS**: Non Exempt

**PAY GRADE**: Para 3

**PRIMARY PURPOSE**:
The Discipline Alternative Education Aide will assist teachers in preparation and management of classroom instructional activities for students that are “at risk” and have been placed in an alternative education program and comply with administrative requirements for the DAEP program.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Required**:

- HS Diploma from an accredited institution and
- Independent School District’s NCLB test in the area of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics (Tests are administered after the recommendation for hire) and must obtain an Educational Aide Certification
- Or completion of at least two years of study at an institution or higher defined as 48 hours of college coursework and
- Must obtain Educational Aide Certification

**Preferred**:

- One-year experience working with children

**Special Knowledge/Skills**:

- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work well with at-risk children.

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**:

- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
- Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignment
- Help maintain neat and orderly classroom
- Help with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment
- Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher
- Participate in staff development and faculty meetings as assignedAssist in the classroom or other offices when needed
- Perform all other duties as assigned

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:
The usual and customary methods of performing this job require the following:
Job may require prolonged periods of standing and moderate stooping, bending, reaching and repetitive hand motions; moderate use of computer. Ability to maintain emotional control under stress. May require some lifting no more than 10lbs. Overtime is required as necessary.
