- 2024**JOB SUMMARY**
- Performs a wide variety of routine seasonal tasks to assist in the maintenance of the City cemeteries plus assists in day-to-day interment responsibilities as needed.**PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Perform general landscape maintenance of the three (3) City cemeteries including mowing grass, trimming around headstones, collecting leaves, and clearing snow.
- When necessary, assists with opening and closing ground burial spaces and mausoleum and cremation interments.

**OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Perform routine equipment maintenance.
- Tamp and seed winter graves.
- Trim and remove bushes and trees.
- Assist as a pall bearer as needed.
- Plant and weed public areas.
- Paint buildings and statuary as needed.
- Clean up storm damage.
- Assist with spring and fall clean-ups.
- Clear river banks and fence rows.
- Maintain buildings and mausoleums.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Must have High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license (if required).

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**
- Ability to use common hand tools.
- Ability to read, interpret and follow instructions.
- Ability to safely and legally operate maintenance equipment such as tractors, riding and hand mowers, leaf blowers, leaf vacuum, string trimmer, chain saw, jack hammer, small dump truck, etc..

**PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND VISUAL SKILLS**
- Work can be strenuous at times and may require frequent lifting of heavy loads of dirt, wood, or stones.
- Must be able to walk, stand, bend and lift while using shovels and other tools.
- Normal vision with or without corrections.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Work outside year-round in all types of weather. Temperature extremes are: summer 95+ degrees and winter -20 degrees. There is exposure to dirt, dust snow, rain, and noise, equipment movement and vibrations, hazardous chemicals and electrical shock.**POST OFFER TESTING REQUIRED**
- The City of Elkhart is a Drug Free Workplace. Therefore successfully passing a post offer drug screen is required (random drug testing may be conducted after employment).
- Background checks producing acceptable BMV and criminal history reports required.
