Amboy, United States Amboy Fire Protection District Full time

The Amboy Fire Protection District (AFPD) is a rural fire department providing fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to a year-round population of 8,000 with 2,333 in the City of Amboy and an estimated 5,667 in the rural area of the district. The district has a seasonal population peak of over 50,000 during the summer months from multiple area campgrounds. In January of 2024, the AFPD signed a consolidation agreement with the Harmon Fire Department, therefore acquiring AFPD Station 2.

AFPD is staffed with approximately 50 paid members. The district encompasses 298 square miles, 120 of which is a tax-supported fire district and the remaining 178 square miles contracts for emergency medical services. With the addition of Station 2, we now cover an additional 60 square miles with another population of 600 in the Harmon, IL area. AFPD operates with a fleet of 10 primary apparatus including 2 engines, 2 ambulances, 1 tanker, 1 rescue unit, 2 ATV's, and 2 EMS non-transport vehicles.

We respond to approximately 500 emergency incidents each year.

AFPD provides auto-aid on fires and vehicle accidents to West Brooklyn, Harmon, Ohio, and Sublette Fire Protection Districts along with auto-aid EMS transport services for Ohio and West Brooklyn. AFPD also provides mutual aid to Dixon City, Dixon Rural, Ashton, Franklin Grove, Harmon, Sublette, Advance EMS, and Compton. AFPD is a member of Mutual Aid Box Alarm System 38.

AFPD and Amboy Fire Department (AFD) are interchangeably used for identification.

**Firefighter / EMT**

** Must be willing to work weekends**

**Responsibilities**:

- Respond to emergency calls and provide medical assistance to individuals in need
- Perform first aid, assess vital signs, and administer CPR as necessary
- Provide basic life support and stabilize patients for transport to medical facilities
- Operate firefighting equipment and extinguish fires to protect life and property
- Conduct search and rescue operations in hazardous environments
- Participate in fire prevention activities, including inspections and public education programs
- Maintain equipment, vehicles, and fire station facilities

**Experience**:

- Previous experience as a firefighter or EMT is preferred but not required
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and physically demanding tasks
- Knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment used in firefighting operations
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record for commercial driving purposes

**Skills**:

- Proficient in first aid techniques and emergency medical procedures
- Knowledge of vital signs monitoring and assessment
- Ability to perform CPR effectively
- Familiarity with basic life support techniques
- Strong physical fitness and ability to perform heavy lifting and strenuous activities
