About the Position

As a Ballot Tabulation Adjudicator or Operator, you would assist in facilitating the election process. This would be through performing various duties, from data entry, mediation, organizing, and/or processing ballots.

Please see a complete list of positions below and their associated job duties. All listed positions are temporary employee roles with Maricopa County before, during, and after the election cycle. The placement and assignment of each temporary worker is based on facilitation needs and the applicant’s abilities.

NOTE: This recruitment will be used to fill multiple temporary positions.

We Require

This position requires a High School Diploma or GED.

Job Contributions

Ballot Tabulation Adjudication Clerk
- Works in teams of two representing different political affiliations (e.g. Republican and Democrat)
- Reviews elections proprietary software to determine voter’s intent
- Maintains legible documentation of processing
- Acts as Duplication Board as needed to duplicate damaged ballots onto not damaged ballots
- Assists other divisions with election activities

Ballot Adjudication Inspector
- Works as the mediator to solve conflicting views between political party’s Adjudicators
- Standing during the duration of the assignment walking from team to team
- Must be an Independent or Party Not Designated registered voter
- Assists other divisions with election activities

Ballot Tabulation Operator
- Sorts, stacks, and straiten bundles of ballots to feed into tabulator machines and/or scanners
- Lifts and removes ballot trays from the ballot racks to tabulation machines
- Keeps required logs of ballots tabulated
- Keys in logs at the end of a shift
- This position will require long periods of standing
- Assists other divisions with election activities

Ballot Tabulation Floater
- Provides support as either an Adjudication Clerk, Operator, or assists with other tasks as assigned.
- Assists other divisions with election activities

Working Conditions
- Full-time/Temporary/Overtime hours is mandatory during the election cycle
- Upper extremity repetitive motion
- Ability to review small font on hard copy or computer screen
- For Adjudicators: Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- For Operators: Ability to lift floor-to-shoulder and shoulder-to-waist a minimum of 50 pounds and carry for 100 feet
- For Operators: Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- All operations will be conducted under livestream cameras and in the presence of political observers

Selection ProcedureMust pass a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation as required by statute or policy, including drug and alcohol testing requirements for positions designated as safety-sensitive
