Patient Care Tech

**Job Objective**: A brief overview of the position.- The Patient Care Technician (PCT) has primary responsibility to assist the RN with patient care, taking vital signs, transporting patients to/from department and patient safety. The PCT performs support functions for the unit, including basic clerical functions, assists with scheduling, supply ordering and maintenance of a tidy patient care department-

**Qualifications**
**Education**- N/A
**Licensure/Certification**Required: American Heart Association BLS
**Experience**- Preferred: Hospital and/or patient care experience
- **Essential Responsibilities**- Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.-
- Demonstrates knowledge of hospital approved patient identifications procedures.-
- Communicates pertinent information and unfinished tasks to RN/co-workers prior to breaks, lunches and end of shift to ensure continuity of patient care and workflow.-
- Provides safe patient environment at all times:- Stays with patient, who may be in danger of falling and hurting themselves
- Correctly identifies patient by use of armband.
- Call bell within reach and secured to gurney
Transports patients in a safe, efficient and comfortable manner to and from Department / Floors when necessary, reporting any changes that may occur during transport. (SBAR)-
- Assists in cleaning dialysis stations and machines in accordance with hospital policies.-
- Assists Nursing staff with patient care, such as repositioning and cleaning of incontinent patients and with moving patients, when necessary.-
- Responds and assists to Code Blue.-
- Notifies patients RN prior to transport and upon return.-
- Notifies Nurse if patient needs taken off or put on monitor.-
- Operates patient support equipment, such as: oxygen tanks, Hovermats, and ergo-slide.-
- Maintains and sanitizes gurneys.-
- Assists in transporting specimens to the lab department as needed.-
- Demonstrates good body mechanics moving, lifting and transporting patients.-
- Appropriately positions and ambulates patients per care plan.-
- Communicates observations of patient condition changes to RN.-
- Maintains general tidiness of patient care area and unit.-
- Performs clerical duties, as directed, in the department (filing, answering phones, scheduling of patients basic order entry, data entry and retrieval, and patient charges).- Performs other duties as assigned.
Location: Eisenhower Health - Intensive Care Units
Schedule: Full Time, Nights, 12 Hour Shift
