**Overview**:
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) Educator is a knowledgeable and experienced staff member who works with new employees to orient them to the clinical aspects of hemodialysis. They act as a role model for new employees by setting examples of appropriate behavior, work habits, and attitudes towards patients, co-workers, supervisors and the company. The PCT Educator is a resource person should problems arise in the clinical area.

This full-time key PCT Educator position requires a clinically competent patient care technician who adheres to Concerto Renal Services Policies & Procedures and works to ensure high quality care for all of Concertos patients through competency-based training and development. Under the supervision of the Vice President of Clinical Services, provides the in-service needs of the facilities and provides preceptorship to newly hired staff by demonstrating patient care technician actions by role-modeling professional interactions, design learning experiences, assess readiness and give feedback on performance.

**Responsibilities**:

- Immediately reports to the Regional Manager and Vice President of Clinical Services any patient safety issue. This must be completed by both verbal and written report.
- Responsible for clinical training of all direct patient care personnel by providing direct instruction and supervision to employee consistent with Concerto Renal Services training program. Actively participate in and present facility/program services as approved by the Clinical Services Department.
- Observes, assesses and evaluates new hire employee and communicates progress to Regional Manager. Maintains direct supervision of the new employee until deemed ready to work independently and provides written feedback about new employee's progress to the Regional Manager and the Clinical Services Department using evaluation tools and direct communication, requesting input as needed.
- Ensures a strong communication process between the Regional Managers, Clinical Services, direct patient care staff, and all support staff at the facility regarding appropriate training and organizational development programs and initiatives.
- Serves as a role model, teacher, and expert through good techniques; adherence to policies, procedures and standards of care; as well as maintenance of a professional demeanor. Assists and supports the facility in achieving quality patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, staff development, and employee satisfaction
- Acts as a change agent for infection control practices within clinic. Monitors staff and patient adherence to infection control practices. Reinforces new hire employee adherence to infection control Policies and Procedures and supports ongoing staff and patient engagement on infection control practices.
- Provide ongoing and timely feedback to the Regional Managers and Vice President of Clinical Services regarding the learning needs and performance of employees. Completes all required documentation in a timely manner and forwards to the Vice President of Clinical Services, i.e. skills checklist, evaluations.
- Oversees the implementation process to ensure that policies and procedures developed by Concerto Renal Care are consistently incorporated into facility practices. Tracks, collects, and reports on compliance to educational programs and ensures that individual facility needs are met by scheduled in-services.

**Physical Demands of the Job**:

- Must meet the necessary requirements of Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment.
- Day to day work includes desk and personal computer work and interaction with patients, regional and facility staff, and physicians.
- The work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.
- The position requires travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community. Travel to facility, Regional and Corporate meetings will be required.
