Description:
Responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance of power plant and all mechanical equipment in accordance with procedures, guidelines, and operating directives in effect. Provides support services for all types of mechanical equipment and systems including, but not limited to: pumps, valves, blowers, compressors, turbines, piping systems and components, cooling towers, reduction gears, and system testing/troubleshooting. Trains and guides less experienced maintenance personnel.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES **(Other duties may be assigned as needed)
- Adheres to, supports and complies with all company safety and environmental policies and practices. Ensures all employees, contractors and visitors conduct themselves safely and within company policies and regulatory guidelines.
- Understands and follows proper procedures for control and shipment of all hazardous waste streams.
- Performs all mechanical preventative and corrective maintenance, including equipment overhauls and system modifications.
- Develops and coordinates the mechanical requirements for new construction installations; including new equipment specification. Oversees electrical installation by third party contractors.
- Provides technical guidance and direction to assigned personnel during completion of repairs, troubleshooting, and overhauls. Provides technical guidance to Maintenance Supervisor, Sr. Maintenance Technician and/or Maintenance Manager.
- Provides diagnosis as to the cause of machinery malfunctions or failure of operational equipment.
- Documents equipment problems, writes work orders, work instructions and maintenance repair requests.
- Provides documentation of all work performed for equipment history files and predictive maintenance trends and scheduling. Performs vibration analysis on rotating equipment.
- Directs self and others in the monitoring and performing of maintenance work as required. Typical maintenance work includes, but is not limited to; disassembly, repair, and assembly of small and medium size equipment; lubricating equipment; assisting with and/or performing mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance; changing oil in equipment, and troubleshooting malfunctions.
- Takes immediate corrective action in response to emergency situations to minimize safety hazards and to reduce damage or downtime to the plant and its equipment.
- Develops piping diagrams, layout drawings, and engineering specifications for system
- Performs corrective, predictive, and preventive maintenance as directed on mechanical systems. Compiles records and reports, and maintains a daily log.
- Reads, interprets, and implements technical information such as electrical drawings, manufacturer’s data, and operating and maintenance procedures.
- Trains to improve personal skills and the skills of co-workers related to the job and/or required advancement.

**EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE - **High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred but not required; completion of applicable technical or vocational training, including completion of an accredited mechanical apprenticeship program; 3-4 years related power plant maintenance experience. Desired qualifications: Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical equipment, systems construction, capacities limitations, theories of operation and operating procedures. Knowledge of plant design and equipment locations, valve configurations, and normal range of flows, temperatures, levels, etc, for common production levels. Knowledge of complex electrical and automatic control systems. Safe use of tools, plant safety rules, probable causes of equipment and systems malfunctions. Knowledge of heavy equipment operation. Basic to intermediate computer skills in word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

**LANGUAGE SKILLS** - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions; procedure manuals; prints and engineering data; interpret charts, graphs and gauge scales; troubleshoot equipment and system problems; and interface with others. Have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate orally and in writing, use a radio, and be able to speak effectively before groups of people.

**REASONING ABILITY** - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
