Sound/lead Tech

Job Overview:
The professional mission and purpose of the Sound & Media Technician is to:
Ensure excellence in live sound and media for positive worship experiences.
Be responsible for audio-visual needs within the church, including but not limited to Sunday worship services, seasonal special services, memorial and wedding services, and other events scheduled in the Sanctuary and Social Hall.
Have a commitment to Christ and the mission of St. Paul’s UMC in Coronado and to the work of Worship and assisting others in their worship of God.
**Reports to**: Lead Pastor
**Functional Guidance**: Director of Music
**Essential Functions**:
- Prior to an event:
- Setup of all audio and visual equipment (including microphones, music stands, etc.).
- Perform proper line check.
- Perform proper sound check (including gain settings, sound mixes, proper volume settings, and equalization process).
- Coordinate with Senior Pastor, Director of Music, and Coordinator of Operations & Support for schedule, last-minute changes, and instruction.
- Set up livestream (when required) on St. Paul’s website and YouTube feed.
- During an event:
- Responsible for adjusting sound levels as needed.
- Responsible for following Praise Team Leader and Director of Music’s instructions.
- Responsible for recording services.
- Responsible for following cues from chancel.
- Responsible for providing a distraction-free environment as related to audio production.
- Post event:
- Return all equipment to proper storage.
- Receive feedback if issues occurred and troubleshoot prior to next event.
- Report any broken/faulty equipment needing servicing. Coordinate with office to schedule servicing.
- Other duties:
- Be available for special services, such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, Easter, etc.
- Establish partnership with volunteers; collaborate with staff in recruiting volunteers.
- Schedule volunteers for services and special events.
- Direct and manage all technical aspects for worship services and other events.
- Troubleshoot technology for all ministries.
- Provide direction and guidance for new equipment needs, upgrades, and installation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
**Time Requirements**:
1. Four hours on Sunday mornings (8 am - 12 pm)
2. Two hours minimum for special events starting 1 hour prior to the event.
3. Periodic staff and team meetings.
**Desired Skills**:
- Have a working knowledge of professional sound equipment.
- Have experience with ProPresenter software suite
- Experience in any aspect of production/performance audio.
- Experience in providing sound and recording support for acoustic and classical music, including choir and orchestra.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Ability to follow directions given by supervisors and ministry directors.
- Be able to present a professional appearance and uphold a positive attitude.
- Have good communication skills.
- Ability to think quickly and react/troubleshoot properly in high stress situations.
- Must be committed to the mission and values of St. Paul’s UMC.
**Job Type**: Part-time
Pay: $21.57 - $25.00 per hour
