**The District**

**The Position**
Under general supervision, Water Maintenance Supervisors coordinate and plan the installation, replacement, repair, modification and maintenance of potable and recycled water distribution infrastructure. Coordinate work crews engaged in complex tasks relating to installation, replacement, repair, modification and maintenance of major pipelines and facilities in a large metropolitan water and recycled distribution.

**Summary of Duties**:
Supervise and participate in the work of Construction Services staff. Evaluate, select, train, plan and direct the work of staff engaged in the installation and relocation of major water distribution pipelines, meter systems and related appurtenances to include the repair of facilities such as sewers and drains damaged during completion of work.

Exercise independent judgment when making decisions involving specific job functions of pipeline shutdowns, which could affect District operations or the public.

Inspect the work site to plan for terrain features, access to materials, special equipment needed and difficulties, which may be encountered.

Coordinate daily activities with city or county inspectors or other District departments to minimize damage to public or private property as well as minimizing inconvenience to the public.

Train and assist subordinate staff in emergency repair and maintenance activities.

Determine labor, materials, equipment and supplies are required to perform assigned tasks.

Responsible for time sheets, maintenance work orders, field activities related to crew activities.

Maintain daily and weekly logs and reports and initiate purchase requisitions and warehouse material sign out sheets (with proper account coding).

Review and evaluate assigned staff performance on a timely basis.

Recommend salary adjustments, promotions or disciplinary action for assigned staff.

Comply with District safety work-related practices and attend relevant safety training.

Participate in scheduled emergency standby program.

Other projects and duties as assigned.

Perform complex tasks relating to installation, repair and modification of domestic and recycled water facilities such as pipefitting, arc welding, using cutting torch to cut and fit pipes for all positions and sizes, pressure and non-pressure.

Perform inspections on construction projects and system modifications, including sewer, domestic and recycled water pipelines.

Review assigned project plans and specifications while consulting engineers at various stages; makes recommendations on modifications of plans and specifications.

Works with Customer Service department regarding customer requests, complaints, corrective actions and/or job completion.

Maintain daily journal of daily activities including time, equipment use, proper accounting or project numbers and any unusual circumstances relating to the day's activities

Operate a variety of mechanical equipment including backhoe, skip-loader, bulldozer, dump truck, crane truck, service truck, Vactor and various hand tools relating to pipeline construction.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**
- A combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma. For degrees obtained outside of the U.S., an official equivalency evaluation is required.

**Experience**
- Three (3) years of experience in water maintenance construction and repair including one (1) year in lead capacity required.

**Licenses/Certifications**
- State Water Resources Control Board Grade 3 Water Distribution Certification is required.
- Grade 1 Certificate in Collection System Maintenance provided by the California Water Environment Association (CWEA), within six (6) months.
- A valid Class A California Driver's License and Tanker Endorsement is required.
