**JOB SUMMARY**

To provide support services for a non-verbal 27-year-old young man with autism who lives in Bowie, MD. He directs his own support services and is seeking staff to help implement his support plan. He really enjoys being out and about in the community, listening to music, and dancing. Some of his favorite activities include Go-Kart riding, walking at the park and shopping malls, and purchasing items. He’s seeking a support team who enjoys both being out in the community, engaging in activities at home. This person must be experienced with **Autism** and **Aggressive Behavior Support**, and knows a good balance between providing support and giving space to encourage independence. In addition, the Family Coordinator and the parents will always be available to provide support, but especially during the initial stage of getting to know him.

Base Salary Range: $40.00 - $46.00 per hour.
Respite Salary Range: $40.00 - $46.00 per hour

**ADDITIONAL INFORMATION**

Providing support for young adults with autism takes a special type of person. Flexibility, understanding, compassion, and patience are key characteristics for this position. We are looking for a team member who also has a background in education, psychology, and/or human services. Experience working with persons with autism who have aggressive behaviors. School, vocational, and/or recreation activities is preferred. The Support Aide for Autistic Young Adult delivers individualized programming based on The Individual Plan of Care and protocols created by the Family Coordinator. The Individual Plan of Care focuses on community, home, and vocational skills development and maintenance. This is a full-time/hourly position with opportunities for increased hours.
- This is a 2:1 (staff to client ratio)
- Reliable transportation is a must, as community integration is the main focus of his plan.
- Short and long-term respite support in the home is mandatory.
- Must provide a copy of your current auto insurance policy **in your own name**, which must show your coverage amount. **You must provide proof of insurance.**:

- Excellent references
- Must be able to work with client one-on-one with aggressive behaviors in the home or in
the community
- Must pass a background check in accordance with local laws/regulations.
- Must have a min of high School diploma
- Veterans must provide a copy of their DD Form 214 with RE Code
- Must have current/up to date vaccine against COVID 19
- MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**
- Be physically fit, energetic, creative, and imaginative
- Implement The Individual Plan of Care at home, work settings, and in the community
- Teach functional skills such as activities of daily living, communication, and fine/gross motor skills
- Assist with recreational and social activities and events
- Ability to handle aggressive behavioral issues and disorders through motivation/re-direction by following a behavior plan
- Collect data throughout each session in a timely and efficient manner
- Attend periodic team meetings
- Provide respite to include long term respite 2X per year.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS**
- Experience working with persons with special needs, e.g., autism or developmental delays (at least 5 years of experience preferred)
- Ability to follow The Individual Plan of Care /Behavior plan
- Ability to interact well with client, co-workers and family members
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team member
- Ability to work well independently and seek assistance when needed
- Ability to collect data on a daily basis
- Ability to accept and implement feedback
- Ability to maintain client confidentiality
- Maintain a current CPR & First Aide certification
