Barrie is also home to the Barrie Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies—one of the largest school-based teacher education programs in the country—and Barrie Camp, a Washington, D.C.area tradition since the 1950s.

**Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Head of Middle & Upper School, the Middle & Upper School Humanities Teacher would be responsible for teaching Humanities classes, advising, and supporting divisional DEI efforts. This is a full-time, exempt faculty position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Teach 4 year-long classes (Grades 7-9) and a one-term elective, with a decolonized and critical approach to history and literature )- Work with Student Support Team to ensure all students’ needs are being met- Lead proactive, transparent communications with families to support students- Guide and support a group of 8-10 students as a Middle or Upper School advisor- Fully participate in the life of Middle and Upper School, including clubs and other student activities- Help build an intentionally inclusive community and demonstrate cross-cultural competency- Attend weekly (schoolwide, divisional, departmental) faculty meetings- Participate in required evening and/or weekend school functions such as Back to Barrie Night, Open Houses, Extended Study Week Showcase, Graduation- Perform chaperoning, car circle, and substitute duties as needed- Lead and/or support two week-long Experiential Education programs (may require overnight travel)- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
- An undergraduate degree (advanced degree preferred- Background in education (at least 3 years of teaching preferred).
