**JOB SUMMARY**

Under the direction of the Medical Records Manager, the Medical Record Clerk is responsible for managing the patient flow at the Medical Records window and assisting the practice in meeting its customer service goals and objectives.

**OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Performs a variety of routine clerical tasks including but not limited to the processing of incoming mail/faxes and distributing to appropriate departments and/or physicians; processing electronic incoming records/reports; scanning & importing of documents into EMR and routine medical record requests.
- Backs up other team members in the department by answering, screening and directing calls to appropriate parties using a multi-line telephone system.
- Provides general practice information such as address and driving directions to callers as requested.
- Acknowledges patient's rights on confidentiality issues, maintains patient confidentiality at all times, and follows HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
- Performs all other duties as assigned to maintain the overall efficiency of the department and practice.

**KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITES REQUIRED**

High School education or equivalent required; 1-2 years’ in a Medical Office environment with Release of Information and Medical Terminology expirence a plus.

1. 1 to 2 years customer service experience preferred.

2. Excellent verbal, interpersonal, customer service and communication skills necessary for responding to patients, and interacting with physicians, supervisors and other associates.

3. Ability to organize and accomplish multiple tasks and to have the flexibility to meet changing demands on a daily basis.

4. Ability to take initiative and problem solve.

5. Ability to maintain a professional manner even under stressful situations.

6. Comprehensive knowledge of telephone and computer skills necessary to perform all functions of the position.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**

1. Steady paced office environment.

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**

1. Regularly required to talk or hear.

2. Regularly required to use hands.

3. Specific vision abilities required for the job include: close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust or focus.

4. Work requires standing and walking approximately 25% of the time and sitting approximately 75% of the time.
