**Job Summary**:

- Responsible for providing emergency support in the event of a fire or medical emergency. Typical duties may include: maintaining readiness for emergency call response; responding to fire, medical, and related emergency calls when dispatched and taking proper action; performing routine apparatus and facility maintenance; preparing incident reports; educating staff and public on fire safety/prevention; and/or, performing other related activities.

**Essential Duties**:
Responds to fire suppression, hazard mitigation, victim rescue, and medical emergencies; maintains readiness for emergency call response; extinguishes fires and performs related life and property protection; provides emergency medical care at a basic and advanced life support level.

Ensures the proper condition, maintenance, and appearance of apparatus and equipment; prepares apparatus for immediate response.

Prepares, maintains, and/or updates incident and other reports and documentation.

Participates in training drills, safety checks, and physical fitness activities and exercises; and participates in/facilitates fire department programs or training sessions to educate staff and public on fire safety/prevention.

Participates in the daily functions of the fire station, which may include: housekeeping, cooking, and/or performing other related duties.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

**Education and Experience**:
Initial Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent

TDSHS EMT - Basic

TCFP Basic Fire Suppression Certification

Valid Texas driver's license

Future Requirements Upon Employment

State of Texas Class B driver's license

TCFP Driver Operator-Pumper

EMT-Paramedic (preferred)

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Fire suppression techniques;
- Modern firefighting and rescue principles and tactics;
- Emergency medical care;
- Physical fitness principles;
- Vehicle, equipment, and apparatus maintenance principles and techniques;
- Applicable Federal, State, and City laws and regulations.

- Providing emergency medical care;
- Suppressing fires;
- Maintaining vehicles, buildings, equipment, and apparatus;
- Driving emergency response vehicles;
- Maintaining physical fitness;
- Preparing and maintaining reports;
- Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information.

**Physical Requirements**:

- Position typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions, such as, mechanical parts, electrical currents, and vibrations; atmospheric conditions, such as fumes, odors, gases, and poor ventilation; hazardous materials, such as chemicals, blood, and other bodily fluids; extreme temperatures; inadequate lighting; work space-related movement restrictions; intense noise; and other environmental conditions, such as, challenging behaviors, imminent danger, and threatening environments; incumbents may also be expected to travel.
