Overview:

**Summary**

The basic function of the Private Investigator is to conduct investigative work for clients, which can include individuals, businesses, or law firms. Or other essential duties or tasks as agreed upon and listed in the Scope of Work.

**Responsibilities**:

- Surveillance - observe and document activities to gather evidence. This can involve following individuals, monitoring locations, or using various technologies like cameras and tracking devices.
- Background Checks - compile detailed information about a person’s history, which might include criminal records, employment history, financial records, and personal connections.
- Locating People - finding missing persons, such as debtors, witnesses, or estranged family members. This includes using public records, databases, and interviews.
- Investigating Infidelity - conducting investigations to confirm or dispel suspicions of infidelity in personal relationships.
- Corporate Investigations - conduct investigations within a business context, which can include fraud detection, embezzlement, internal theft, or vetting potential employees or business partners.
- Legal Investigations: Working alongside lawyers, to help gather evidence for civil and criminal cases. This can include locating witnesses, taking statements, and collecting facts to support legal proceedings.
- Insurance Investigations - investigate potentially fraudulent insurance claims, gathering evidence to confirm or refute claims made by policyholders.
- Asset Searches - Identifying and locating assets for purposes such as debt collection, divorce settlements, and probate
- Security Services - provide security consulting, risk assessment, and executive protection services
- Undercover Operations - Going undercover in various settings to gather information or evidence on illegal or unethical activities
- Process Serving - deliver legal documents to parties involved in court proceedings, ensuring proper legal protocols are followed.

Qualifications:

- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Valid Driver’s License
- Valid Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID)
- High School Diploma or GED
- Successfully complete a 20 - hour basic training course
- Sworn Illinois Law Enforcement Officer Certification or Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC)
- A peace officer is exempt from the requirements relating to the possession of a firearm control card. The employing agency shall remain responsible for any peace officer employed under this exemption.
- Applicant must be eligible to be issued a Firearms Control Card by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
- Consent to criminal background check, and able to pass the pre-employment testing including a complete physical & along with a successful interview
- Has not been convicted of any felony in any jurisdiction or at least 10 years have elapsed since the time of full discharge from a sentence imposed for a felony conviction.
- Has not been declared by any court of competent jurisdiction to be incompetent by reason of mental or physical defect or disease unless a court has subsequently declared him or her to be competent.
- Has not been dishonorably discharged from the armed forces of the United States.

**Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities**
- Knowledge of client service areas including streets and landmarks
- Knowledge of map reading techniques, including directions of travel and freeway access
- Ability to make timely and appropriate decisions under emergent circumstances based on technical standards, criteria, and policies
- Ability to remember numerous details and quickly re-call essential information
- Ability to consistently think clearly and respond quickly in a wide variety of emergency situations
- Ability to speak English clearly, possess an excellent vocabulary and verbally communicate rapidly
- Ability to deal effectively with people in a multi-cultural society under extremely stressful situations
- Ability to quickly perform multiple time-sensitive tasks in response to visual and sound stimuli with a high degree of accuracy
