**Overview**:
Works with school administration, the Head Custodian, Night Lead Custodian and other district staff to ensure school facilities requirements are met, including maintaining a safe and clean building and providing for the physical needs of the educational program.

**Performance Responsibilities**: (illustrative not inclusive)
- Maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of the building by performing all work assignments in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and schedules
- Keeps building, premises, including sidewalks and play areas neat and clean at all times
- Performs necessary work to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of all hard surface flooring, including but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, polishing and waxing
- Dusts and cleans offices and classrooms
- Empties trash receptacles
- Cleans, sanitizes and restocks restrooms
- Assists in snow removal
- Washes interior and exterior windows
- Locks and unlocks assigned buildings, making sure lights are off and security system is activated when necessary
- Assists with set up of facilities for functions, events, meetings, etc.
- Helps with deliveries
- Works closely with all custodial staff
- Moves furniture, equipment and supplies
- Covers outside events as assigned
- Supports and carries out Board of Education policies and procedures
- Report all repairs and unusual findings to the Night Lead Custodian
- Performs other similar duties as assigned by the Night Lead Custodian

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:
Ability to:

- Understand written and oral instructions
- Work cooperatively with others
- Perform physically demanding work
- Occasional climbing, balancing, crouching and crawling. Frequent stooping, reaching, kneeling, handling, fingering, talking and hearing.
- Stand, walk, crouch, kneel and push/pull using arms, legs and back muscles
- Perform lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds
- Work at heights using ladders
- Operate heavy equipment, including but not limited to: buffers, scrubbers, burnishers, extractors and snow removal equipment
- Complete assignments without direct supervision; self-starter
- Deal with situations and emergencies calmly and quickly

**Environmental Conditions**:
Climate controlled office setting and exposure to weather with temperatures ranging from mild/moderate to extreme cold/heat. Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud and occasional to frequent time periods.

**Qualifications**:
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent desired
- Successful related work experience desired

**Other Requirements**:

- Background check
- Successful completion of Pre-employment Physical
- Screening for Tuberculosis (TB)
- Attendance at district sponsored training sessions and put into practice the safety measures learned
- Provide for the safety of themselves and others by using personal protective equipment when the situation calls for it
- When unsure about the safety of a situation consult with a supervisor

**Pay Grade**:
Grade I of the Custodial Union Contract

**Evaluation**:
Annual evaluation by the Night Lead Custodian in consultation with the Head Custodian
