The Children’s Museum main campus has recently moved across town to a new temporary location at 180 Mohegan Drive in West Hartford, CT. Our unique Children’s Museum Preschool, co-located within our West Hartford Museum, integrates science experiences into early childhood learning and a play-based curriculum. **Our Roaring Brook Nature Center in nearby Canton offers environmental exhibits, nature programs, and acres of outdoor hiking, bird watching, and winter cross-country skiing, alongside a wildlife rehabilitation clinic and animal sanctuary.**

The Children’s Museum Group will inspire life-long learning among children and their caregivers by providing experiential learning programs covering STEAM/STEM, health, nature, and the environment. Entertaining, stimulating, and unique to the area, our programs will assist the development of curious, confident, and innovative children creating the basis for successful adults. In so doing, The Children’s Museum group will continue to be a valued asset and partner in the community.

ABOUT THE POSITION**:Weekend Animal Rehabber at Roaring Brook Nature Center**

**Responsibilities**:

- Open the clinic at the beginning of each shift and ensure all necessary preparations are completed for the day's activities. Close the clinic at the end of the day, ensuring equipment is properly stored and facilities are secure.
- Provide compassionate care to current patients in the clinic, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and assisting with treatments as directed by clinic staff. Triage and assess new admissions during weekend shifts, ensuring timely and appropriate care.
- Assist with triage procedures for new admissions during the week as needed. This may involve assessing the condition of incoming animals and coordinating with veterinary staff to prioritize care.
- Answer phone calls directed to the clinic and promptly respond to messages. Relay important information to appropriate staff members and follow up on any inquiries or concerns from the public.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance tasks to maintain cleanliness and organization within the clinic. This includes sanitizing surfaces, restocking supplies, and ensuring proper waste disposal procedures are followed.
- Assist with the care of ambassador animals, both indoors and outdoors, as needed. This may include feeding, grooming, exercising, and monitoring behavior to ensure the animals' well-being.
- Assist with the coordination of volunteers. Provide guidance and support to volunteers as they assist with clinic operations and animal care.
- Enter relevant information into our Wildlife Rehabilitation Medical Database (WRMD) to maintain accurate records of patient care and treatment protocols.

**Qualifications**:

- Previous experience in wildlife rehabilitation, animal care, or a related field preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Compassion and empathy for animals and their welfare.
- Weekend and holiday work is required.
- Satisfactory findings in our group’s internal background check process.
- The ability to lift up to 40 pounds, when provided with safe techniques and tools and able to carry those 40 lbs. throughout the Nature Center.

**Job Type and Schedule**: This position is considered non-exempt and part-time with routine weekend hours and additional weekday hours as they come available. We ask for flexibility to attend initial weekday training days during the first month and assist with coverage on weekdays and holiday periods that require additional staffing when higher admission numbers are expected.
