**SUMMARY**: The Indian Community School’s Culture Support is responsible for providing quality instruction and experiences on topics of American Indian cultures and activities. Works closely with Our Ways staff to ensure students are able to become independent users of the skills taught. Collaborates with students, faculty, and staff to integrate Native Language and Culture throughout the school environment.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. Provides students with accurate cultural teachings.
2. Demonstrates the Seven Sacred Gifts in job performance and interactions with students, faculty, staff, and community.
3. Works to develop students’ well-being and skills to obtain independent practice of the taught material.
4. Attends all meetings as assigned, including weekly meetings with Our Ways staff.
5. Coordinates teachings with academic staff, including alignment of topics and teachings with school events and programming, the Culture Calendar (Seven Sacred Gifts and Our Ways Teaching and Learning Framework TM Strand as defined monthly).
6. Maintains balance in teachings (i.e., male/female, intergenerational, multiple American Indian Nations’ perspectives).
7. Collaborates with planning and organizing traveling performances, and managing requests for student performances.
8. Maintains a list of students interested in participating in afterschool and traveling performances. Ensures that traveling students are in good standing regarding grades& homework, attendance, behavior, and The Code of Conduct.
9. Hosts students’ family members, including participation in team-building exercises with students and families, and a meal.
10. Produces brief reports about outings, team building, parent involvement, and student and program progress.
11. Assists with and hosts guests and alumni.
12. Maintains a welcoming environment by providing guests with a positive experience.
13. Incorporates feedback in a positive manner.
14. Abides by the Employee Handbook.
15. Partners with Our Ways staff in planning, organizing, and implementing cultural activities, providing resources to staff and students, and locating guest speakers for cultural instruction.
16. Participates in the planning of school events (e.g. Monthly Ceremonies &Presentations, Pow wows, Native theatre, Social events, etc.).
17. Responsible for developing the ability/capacity to vary teaching styles and methods to meet the needs of all students.
18. Effectively communicates with the Our Ways Director regarding concerns with students' behavior.
19. Complies with State Laws in reporting suspected child abuse and neglect.
20. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate through the use of positive classroom management.
23. Incorporates American Indian culture, language, traditions and the Seven Sacred Gifts into the curriculum and educational programming.
24. Actively participates in learning about American Indian culture, language, traditions, and the Seven Sacred Gifts.
25. Builds and maintains professional relationships with students, families, staff, and administration that are positive, constructive, and focused on team collaboration.
26. Complies with State Laws in reporting suspected child abuse and neglect.
27. All other duties as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Knowledge of woodland cultural practices.
- Experience working with urban children and/or American Indian cultures, communities, and students.
- Experience working in a school setting is preferred.
- Experience being a team player with the ability to focus on student outcomes.
- American Indian language skills and/or cultural knowledge and experience a plus.
