Park Security Officer

This is highly responsible work in the safeguarding of park properties and park users. Work involves patrolling, inspecting buildings and grounds, and furnishing information as to park facilities and regulations. This position is responsible for enforcing of all rules, regulations and ordinances controlling the use of municipal properties and park lands. Work requires considerable independent judgment, use of tact and patience, supervision of seasonal security personnel including scheduling and duty assignments. Work is reviewed by a superior through direct observation, analysis of reports prepared, and results obtained.
This list may not include all tasks and/or knowledge which may be expected of the employee, nor does it cover all specific duties which may be required. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides excellent customer service; ability to assess customers' needs and provide the correct answer, path, troubleshooting, or method for a positive customer experience.
- Supervises seasonal security personnel; develops scheduling and prepares duty assignments; direct and/or participates in training.
- Patrols municipal park areas to prevent and discover vandalism, unruly conduct, and other violations of municipal ordinances. Issues ordinance violations, testifies in administrative or County court as required.
- Observes public gatherings; identifies violators and calls for police backup if involuntary detention or arrest is necessary.
- Turns off tennis court lights; opens and locks facilities; performs routine maintenance including cleaning tasks if required.
- Inspects Park equipment and facilities routinely; reports unsafe conditions and/or broken equipment, verbally or in writing.
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports.
**General Skill Levels**:
- Knowledge of basic or commonly used rules, procedures or operations associated with law enforcement; knowledge of all park rules and regulations and municipal ordinances which regulate the use of the city's parks or the ability to acquire such knowledge during the probationary period.
- Ability to analyze the situations quickly and objectively and to determine the proper course of action to be taken.
- Ability to convey City and departmental rules and regulations to the general public in a professional and understandable manner.
- Ability to handle confrontational situations professionally and to enforce rules and regulations firmly, courteously, and tactfully.
**Education/Experience**:
- Required: High school diploma or GED, some experience involving public contact requiring appropriate judgment.
- 2 or more years of security experience.
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities will also be accepted.
**Certificate or Licenses**:
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Illinois Motor Vehicle Class D License.

- Traveling to in-town work sites and the ability to walk/work in variety of natural and altered ground surfaces which may be uneven, wet or slippery or sloped.
- Ability to sit/drive vehicles or equipment.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to enter, exit and safely operate motorized equipment.
Pay: $31.34 per hour
