**BILINGUAL ART TEACHER - PRESCHOOL AND LOWER ELEMENTARY**
**JOB DESCRIPTION**
**Summary/Objective**
The Magellan International School (Colegio Internacional Magallanes), in Austin, Texas, has an opening for a Bilingual Art Teacher. This position will work in our Preschool and Lower Elementary Schools (Pre-K through 4th Grades). The Art Teacher is responsible for teaching art education to students in Spanish, and assists the staff of the school in the usage of art in regular instruction. This teacher helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and usage of art through comprehensive art instruction that includes Art Technique and Art History.
**Essential Functions**
- Teaches basic to advanced art techniques and encourages students to develop individual art skills to the greatest extent possible.
- Educates students about cultural and historical influences on art.
- Plans and executes a balanced art program and organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, and projects can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Supervises and assists students, grades artwork, encourages creativity, and teaches techniques in a variety of mediums.
- Informs students on proper care and use of tools and equipment. Organizes storage areas and controls the use of materials, equipment, and tools to promote conservation and discourage loss.
- Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work in the classroom and around the school.
- Evaluates and assesses each student’s artistic growth.
- Develops curriculum in collaboration with programme coordinators and teachers.
- Selects appropriate books and instructional aids to enhance learning and requests art supplies as necessary.

Students
- Promotes high standards and expectations for all students for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
- Serves as a role model for students, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the education profession.
- Ensures that the instructional programs engage the learner in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, problem solving and creativity.
- Addresses the range of skills and developmental needs found in the classroom.
- Encourages students to define individual goals.
- Maintains a safe and creative environment for their students.
- Creates a full Spanish immersion environment.
Faculty
- Supports teachers and co-workers.
- Attends all Primary School staff and faculty meetings.
- Meets with Primary Years Programme Coordinators to review curriculum plans and activities and evaluate program's effectiveness.
Administration
- Maintains records on each child's progress and development.
- Keeps up-to-date records of attendance, curriculum, assessment tasks in Toddle.
- Carries out supervision at break times, lunch times, and other times as required.
- Prepares documentation for IB external assessment.
Parents
- Communicates professionally and effectively to parents about student progress.
- Conducts individual parent conferences at the end of each term.
- Establishes a positive relationship with student families.
- Prepares parent presentations as needed.
- Attends parent meetings when required.
- Communicates and collaborates with parents of high needs students.
Internal Community
- Participates in Fundraising and Marketing efforts to support the growth of our non-profit, independent school.
External Community
- Curates local community offerings and communicates opportunities to the school community.
- Promotes the Magellan International School Mission.
- Creates and maintains connections with relevant community resources.

**Required Education and Experience**
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four year college or university with a degree in Education, Art, or related field of study
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in both Spanish and English
- Teaching Certificate or other teaching accreditation qualification
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience
- Demonstrated experience teaching art and solid working knowledge of the concepts, activities and techniques related to teaching art at the primary and middle school levels
- Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience creating a stimulating classroom environment
**Preferred Experience**
- Master’s in Art Education
- Experience with or training in the IB PYP Programmes
**Personal Attributes and Skills**
- Dynamic, empathetic communicator
- Deep knowledge or experience working with music and/or the ability to play instruments
- Strong organizational skills
