**Tentative Start Date**:End of May

**Duration**:Long-term, independent contractor role job (asking for at least a **6 month** commitment as long as things are working out for us). This is not a summer-only or holiday-only job.

**Schedule**:Two weekdays per week, broken into two 4-6 hour shifts. We will arrange the hours together based on your availability if you are a right fit for the job Possible two days will either be Tuesdays and Fridays, or Tuesdays and Thursdays starting no earlier than 10am and no later than 1pm.
- Hours/ Week: 8-12 hours a week
- Days/ Week: Two
- Time Frame: mid-mornings or early afternoon start, 4-6 hour shift
- Specific Days Needed: Tuesday & Thursday, or Tuesday & Friday with the potential to work on weekends as needed when watering day is on a weekend

Do you have an eye for detail and a careful hand? Do you love plants? All the Plant Babies online rare plant shop is looking to hire a Greenhouse Assistant in Oak Park, IL. The Greenhouse Assistant is responsible for maintaining the rare and beautiful plants and equipment that keeps the business running. To sum it up, in this job you will be watering TONS of plants and cleaning equipment

Perks of the job include free plants and cuttings when extra (and there's always extra), as well as learning how to care for rare plants. Experience with houseplants is almost a requirement. If this sounds like something you’d enjoy doing, read on

**Job duties will include, but are not limited to**:

- Watering 300+ plants and seedlings each week in the indoor growing rooms and tents in my home (watering takes 3-6 hours each time as we use special nutrients and involves lots of jug filling and flushing of water from trays)
- Cleaning and scrubbing the 4 humidifiers thoroughly with bleach and vinegar every other week
- Filling watering jugs with water and fertilizer at specific amounts
- Repotting Anthuriums, Philodendrons and Hoyas, planting seeds, transplanting seedlings
- Flushing large, heavy pots of plants potting in Lechuza pon (rock like substrate) out with water, quarterly

**Qualifications**:

- Experience and/or strong interest in horticulture is a strong plus
- Ability to work efficiently and closely with a partner (owner of company), and eventually by oneself
- Follows directions closely and is detailed oriented
- Strong work ethic
- Able to take feedback in stride

**Physical and Work Environment Requirements**
- Home environment: must be comfortable around 3 young children and not allergic or afraid of dogs (one old Labradoodle).
- Must be strong: able to lift heavy pots to flush them.
- Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, bend and reach during entire work shift.
- Ability to stand on a 5ft ladder/ large step stool to reach high-up plants
- Ability to work with hands and arms during entire shift.
- Ability to handle fragile plants safely
- Must have excellent vision

**Job Type**: Contract

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 - 12 per week

Schedule:

- 4 hour shift
- Day shift
- No nights
- No weekends
