Juvenile Detention Center Superintendent

The Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) Superintendent, is responsible for direct oversight of Juvenile Detention Center operations. The JDC Superintendent ensures the juveniles detained within the secure facility receive high-quality services that comply with court orders and established court policies, as well as all State and Federal licensing standards and regulations. The JDC Superintendent is responsible for monitoring services, capacity, overseeing the hiring and managing of staff, and assuring staff meet minimum expectations and best practice standards.

**Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications**:
Possess a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or other human services field; **AND**
Have a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience in a child caring institution, child placing agency, criminal justice agency, or equivalent organization.
**OR**
Possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or other human services field; **AND** Have a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in a child caring institution, child placing agency, criminal justice agency, or equivalent organization.

**Physical Conditions / Work Location**:
**PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES**
An employee in this class must be in good physical condition such to allow for occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.

**ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS**
The employee generally works in the Muskegon County Juvenile Detention Center.
