**Job Summary**

We are looking for highly motivated, flexible person with the ability for innovative, forward-thinking to work in an industrial setting focused on fermentation processes and product development. This person must have a general knowledge and experience in one or more, preferably all, of the following:

- Equipment and methods for microbial fermentation
- Microbial physiology and growth
- General and quantitative laboratory chemistry

Requires strong analytical and problem solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication and the ability to clearly and critically articulate situations. The ability to multi-task is essential.

This person will lead a multi-contributor workgroup to identify goals and develop experimental design(s) of microbial fermentation processes to meet the needs of the company. They will look to identify areas of need. You will design and execute efficient fermentation experiments at bench and pilot scale. You should also be able to understand the impact of scale-up and scale-down to ensure successful technology transfer and equivalent performance across scale.

**Responsibilities and Duties**

**Specifically, the position requires**:

- Must have mastery of basic microbiology and inorganic chemistry skills, advanced skills desired
- Ability to work in collaborative cross functional team environment
- Work closely with other company personnel to define strain characteristics and optimize production
- Work hands on with bioreactors and related equipment
- Design and execute experiments
- Stay informed with current relative literature and knowledge of new and potentially useful technology
- Develop, maintain, and follow standard operating procedures (SOP’s)
- Participate in hazards training and work safely at all times
- Guide and mentor fermentation associates to insure high precision results,
- The incumbent will be expected to offer new and or unique solutions to process or experimental strategies to meet the need of challenges that may appear during the development processes.
- This person must be willing and able to flex their schedule from time to time to meet goals or deal with anticipated and/or unanticipated challenges of the projects.

**Qualifications and Skills**
- Minimum BS degree - microbiology, chemistry, chemical or biological engineering, or equivalent experience
- Extensive experience with microbial fermentation
- Ability to run different strain search techniques, development strategies, and production processes
- Experience with graphical data presentations and analysis and basic statistics a plus
- Organized and conscientious with excellent record keeping and communication skills
- Ability to lift and manipulate up to five (5) gallons of water or similar liquids or other objects weighing up to 42 pounds, and work standing up 50% of your workday
