St. John Paul II Catholic High School is seeking a compassionate and skilled school Counselor to join our student support team. The school Counselor will provide individual and group counseling services to students, address emotional and psychological issues, and collaborate with educators, parents, and community resources to promote students' overall well-being. This role is integral in fostering a supportive and inclusive school environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally aligned with the school’s mission.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Counseling Services**:

- Provide individual and group counseling to students experiencing emotional, psychological, or social challenges.
- Develop and implement treatment plans and therapeutic interventions tailored to students' needs.
- Conduct assessments to identify students’ mental health needs and monitor their progress.
- Utilize Christian counseling principles to offer spiritual guidance and emotional support.

**Crisis Intervention**:

- Respond to crises and provide immediate support to students in distress.
- Develop and implement crisis intervention plans and protocols.
- Coordinate with emergency services and community resources as needed.

**Collaboration and Consultation**:

- Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to support students' mental health and academic success.
- Consult with parents and guardians to provide guidance and support for their children’s mental health needs.
- Coordinate with external mental health professionals and community organizations to facilitate referrals and additional support services.

**Program Development**:

- Develop and lead mental health awareness programs and initiatives within the school.
- Conduct workshops and training sessions for staff, students, and parents on topics related to mental health and well-being.
- Implement preventive programs aimed at reducing risk factors and enhancing protective factors for students.

**Record Keeping and Compliance**:

- Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions and student progress.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations regarding student mental health services.
- Prepare reports and documentation as required by school policies and regulations.

**Qualifications**

**Education and Experience**:

- Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field required.
- Valid state licensure or certification as a School Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience providing mental health counseling to adolescents, preferably in a school setting.
- Strong understanding of child development and behavioral interventions.
- Familiarity with Christian counseling practices is a plus

**Skills and Competencies**:

- Strong understanding of adolescent development, mental health issues, and evidence-based counseling practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with students, staff, and parents.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Crisis intervention skills and the ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive school environment.
- Proficiency in using technology for documentation, communication, and virtual counseling services.
