Laboratory Technician

A Laboratory Technician, is responsible for following directives from lead scientists within the laboratory to independently handle a variety of tasks through following established standard operating procedures and protocols. This position will be trained in a variety of laboratory equipment, handle various materials and chemicals where the expectation will be to operate independently while keeping safety as your top priority. Other miscellaneous tasks include inventory management, literature review, and other related duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Executes Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols, and procedures independently and accurately.

2. Assists scientists in implementation of laboratory work, follows instructions and completes assignments efficiently. Assists scientists with other process development tasks as needed.

3. Demonstrate hand-eye coordination and attention to detail while performing operations requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity.

4. Utilize lab equipment such as a lab balance, micropipette, hot press, film applicator, ultrasonicator, and lab oven.

5. Set up equipment correctly and adjust parameters based on the supervisor’s requirements and process needs.

6. Accurately weigh chemicals for fabrication, perform catalyst ink mixing, materials cutting and transferring according to SOP and associated documents for the assigned work area. Keep prepared materials stocked as needed to prevent process delays.

7. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

8. Assists supervisor to order, receive, and register new chemicals or materials in the company inventory system.

9. Read, understand, and verify product specifications.

10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

11. All other duties as assigned.

Day-to-Day Tasks:
1. Execute established SOP, protocols, and procedures (50%)

2. Assists scientists in implementation of laboratory work (30%)

3. Utilize lab equipment safely and independently (10%)

4. Miscellaneous job-related duties (10%)

Job Requirements:
1. At least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Preferred Requirements:
The major concern for this entry position is to hone the skills which essentially revolve around the responsibilities. The skills you possess are your entry towards a successful career.

1. A hardworking attitude to work as and when required.

2. Firm understanding of research methods, protocols, procedures, techniques, and equipment within specified area of specialty.

3. Adequate math skills to measure and calculate mixtures and ratios, calculate averages and standard error.

4. Familiarity with lab equipment such as micropipettes, ultrasonicator, lab balance, hot press, and film applicators.

5. Adequate hand-eye coordination to adjust fine details repeatedly and neatly.

6. Ability to cut and shape materials to specific measurements.

7. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Position pays $20.00/hr
