Chicago, United States BMO US Full time

320 S Canal Street Chicago Illinois,60606

The AML Business Liaison provides second line AML oversight and risk advisory to various lines of business with an emphasis on Personal and Business Banking, Wealth Management and Commercial Banking. The role is accountable for acting as a trusted advisor and overseeing the comprehensive AML Program across assigned US operations (e.g. US Lines of Business (LOB) / Legal Entities (LE)) of a BMO Operating Group (OG). The role helps to ensure compliance with effective AML risk controls in accordance with BMO Bank N.A. (BBNA) and regulatory standards and policies. Utilizing an in depth understanding of both AML / ATF regulatory requirements and AML prudential risk management requirements, the AML Business Liaison is accountable to ensure the assessment of their impact from ‘end-to-end’ (i.e. from product origination through fulfillment) across all processes throughout business group.

The role is accountable for building and maintaining a network of relationships with business leaders and the AML Reporting Officer (AMLRO) to aid in effective monitoring of the end-to-end AML regulatory risk management profile and provide regular reporting on the status of the AML program for the US businesses. The AML Business Liaison integrates information from a variety of sources to regularly report on the state of AML compliance for US operations of an OG and share the assessment with appropriate audiences.

Acting as the key integration point, the role liaises with AML Office staff in the US and at Enterprise, various corporate functions, the AMLRO and LOB/LE management highlighting AML risks including regulatory exposure, material initiatives and systems issues or weaknesses in the control infrastructure. Acting as a key driver for change and incorporating information regarding changes to AML legislation and risk management expectations, the role then works closely with the AMLRO and business(es) to provide advice to develop, execute and monitor controls to ensure AML compliance and risk management requirements are managed in a prudent manner and in accordance with tolerances and risk appetite set out by the CAMLO and business leaders. The AML Business Liaison ensures regular assessment is done on the AML program and looks for opportunities to improve established processes to gain efficiencies and identifies trends which may signal control breakdowns. The role also ensures guidance is provided to businesses on addressing identified AML and OFAC risk management issues and implementing initiatives to address them.

The AML Business Liaison ensures US perspective and contributions are included in the Enterprise AML effort to define comprehensive identification and management of AML risk typologies for the OG which guides the development, implementation and maintenance of customer risk scoring methodology and the approach to manual and automated means to monitor client and account activity.

Within the mandate of this role and BMO’s three lines of defense model, ensure business decisions and activities fall within the risk appetite of the Bank, and that internal controls are in place and functioning effectively to support management decision-making that protects our assets and adheres to applicable corporate policies, operating directives, laws and regulations (including risk, compliance, and AML).
