Med Tech

The medication Tech is responsible for all the duties in relation to safety administering medications and treatments to the residents. It also requires a maturity and responsible attitude to have confidence in the ability to administer medications and treatments. Under the direction of Director of Nursing, the Medication tech performs tasks that involve specific supportive services for residents, pouring, dispensing and charting medications, vital sign, general charting of resident’s condition and completion of variety of forms. As a med-tech your position is to provide care to residents as needed (fill-in as caregiver when appropriate).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -General Management responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

- Is knowledgeable of company policy and procedures.
- Reads, understands and appropriately documents on the 24-hour communication reports; Understands the resident alert status and documents appropriately in resident’s record.
- Legible, accurate documentation on the medication record.
- Understands and appropriately initiates an interim service plan; Ensures the Resident Aids are aware of changes on the service plan.
- Assists resident with transportation and appointments as needed.
- Notifies RCC/Administrator/Director of Nursing of resident change of condition.
- Faxes medication orders to pharmacy.
- Faxes physician as care needs arise or as instructed by Director of Nursing and RCC.
- Notifies physician when pre-authorizations are required, or medications not covered by insurance.
- Assists with the re-ordering of medications.
- Monitors medications when it arrives from the pharmacy and notify the pharmacy for any discrepancies.
- Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the medication room and medication cart.
- Capable of taking accurate vital signs and weights and notifying RCC/DON of discrepancies.
- Accurately completes an incident report and begins an investigation.
- Accurately completes a medication error report if necessary.
- Notifies family, physician, resident and management if incident or errors occur while on shift.
- General record keeping and filling as needed.
- Administers the medications and treatments, according to the scheduled times, following the medication and ministration protocol.
- Fill in as caregivers as needed.
- Serves meals as needed.
- Answer call lights as needed.
- Always conduct yourself and the business so as not to distract from, or to reflect adversely on the reputation of the community.
- Reports to work in a safe manner and understands that potentially hazardous conditions are managed; Compliance with Safety Committee Standards is required.
- Has knowledge of, and can demonstrate proper technique, or can learn how to assist with: gait belt, transfer board, oxygen equipment, C-pap/Bi-pap, nebulizer, catheter, specimen collection, wheelchair, scooter, scale and any other equipment as directed by DON/RCC.

**Supervisory Responsibilities**

Ensures that there is adequate staff scheduled on shift; Notify RCC when there is not enough

staff scheduled.

**Qualifications**
- Ability to read, write and speak English.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
- Ability to conform to requirements of dress code and personal hygiene standards.
- Ability to cooperate with other employees.
- Ability to do extensive bending, lifting and standing on a regular basis.
- Pleasant, tactful, and courteous.
- Highschool Graduate
- Must have first aid training and CPR certificates.
- Must have acceptable references.
- Must have current physical exam and TB test.
- Must be able to pass fingerprint screening.
