Avaya Technician

Tyto Athene has an opening for an **Avaya Technician (AT)** at Fort Belvoir. The Avaya Technician will be responsible to complete all aspects of monitoring the Avaya Communications Server 2100 (CS2100) and Avaya S8800 servers, Gateway 450 (G450) gateways, CM and subtending systems for faults, line and trunk troubles. ATs will perform Inside Plant (ISP) troubleshooting and diagnostics of lines and trunks to correct any issues up to the Main Distribution Frame (MDF)/Digital Signal Cross Connect (DSX) prior to dispatching an Outside Plant (OSP) technician. ATs will answer the Verizon Help Desk line to interface with customers calling in repair requests, to open, maintain, code and close trouble tickets in NetPlus, and to assist OSP technicians with installs, disconnects and trouble tickets. Each AT will perform their duties with minimum supervision and participate in cross-functional projects as scheduled. VoIP troubleshooting such as PING, IPTRACE and programming mediums such as OSSGATE will become part of the ATs responsibility.

**Responsibilities**:

- Monitoring of fiber optic systems and network.
- Enter, track, and resolve any trouble tickets or routing maintenance tickets in NetPlus.
- Possess knowledge of wiring and be able to monitor the switch SCAN points that are used for various alarms.
- Skillful performance on maintenance of SL100 telephone switch using Translation Verification (TRAVER), Log Utility (LOGUTIL), and/or Helmsman database program.
- Familiarity of analog, digital, and IP phones to include but not limited to the following models: 9316, M5316, M5008, M5208, M5112, M5312, 6210, M522 ADDON, 1120E, 1140E, 6210T Tone Commander, Avaya 9608 IP Desk Phone, Avaya 9621G IP Phone, Avaya 9408 Digital Desktop Phone,
- Strong computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and word processing.

**Required**:

- Install cross connects in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner to meet the demands of the Verizon Business Office customer service representatives and OSP technicians and to meet the due dates of Telephone Service Requests (TSRs).
- Test new lines upon completion ensuring that there is no ISP or OSP troubles. When troubles are detected the AT will take action to correct any troubles prior to dispatching an OSP technician.
- Perform Service Order (SERVORD) programming for adds, moves, and changes to Meridian business sets, analog circuits, Video Teleconference (VTC) and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN).
- Interface with Verizon Business Office on any TSR or work order requiring assistance.
- Possess knowledge of wiring and be able to monitor the switch SCAN points that are used for various alarms.
- Possess knowledge of Windows based PC to include Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Inventory maintenance of all spare circuit packs and peripheral equipment.
- Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work extremely flexible hours and support on-call duties and shift work may be required.
- Additional work hours beyond normal duty hours may be necessary, at times, to complete the weekly workload based upon the discretion of the supervisor.
- On-call availability during off-hours in the event of service problems with the system.
- Ability to concisely and effectively communicate and present information to a varied audience, including technical and non-technical customer representatives.
- Effective time management to allow for involvement in special projects as assigned by the supervisor.
- Fostering of excellent relations with the Customer and the Team on behalf of Black Box.
- Follow established guidelines set forth by the Customer, Black Box, and the supervisor for conduct and work performance.
- Must be able to work shift work, Holiday's and weekends.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret level security clearance.

**Desired**:

- Minimum Associates degree, two (2) year technical degree, relevant military experience, equivalent special electronics training, or equivalent work experience is required.
- Minimum of two (2) years experience working on the CS2100/SL100 switching systems and peripheral equipment.
- Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) A+ certified.
- CompTIA Network+ certified.
- CompTIA Security+ certified.

**Location/Schedule**: This is a part-time work position located at Ft Belvoir, VA. The part-time hours for this position are 12:00 PM (noon) to 12:00 AM (midnight) every other weekend - 24 hours every two weeks.
