**About Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility**:
As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility Intake Unit promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. The Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility is a maximum security Correctional facility for juvenile males. The Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility is located in Logansport, Indiana. The Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility (formerly the Logansport Juvenile Intake/Diagnostic Facility) serves as the intake facility for all male juveniles committed to the Indiana Department of Correction.

**Role Overview**:
You will work within the scope of the Department’s established policies and procedures. Work is broad in scope and consists of complex routine and non-routine decision-making abilities. You must use considerable judgment in selecting the most adequate recommendations. Proposed changes are discussed with the Supervisor of Education.The supervisor does not issue specific instructions prior to the course of work, but discusses the general objectives of the course to be taught and of the educational mission of the institution. The supervisor may also offer suggestions related to the preparation of lesson plans or the solutions to unique problems. Work is reviewed on a regular interval by the supervisor for compliance with the laws, regulations, procedures and standards. You will have the full responsibility for many non-routine decisions in determining student progress and methods and materials to be used in teaching.

**Salary Statement**:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $65,000.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

**A Day in the Life**:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:

- Instruct students in vocational/career studies.
- Prepare outline for course study, prepare daily lesson plans, and correct/evaluate assignments in compliance with competency-based curriculum standards.
- Organize program of practical and technical instruction in compliance with competency-based curriculum standards.
- Instruct students on health safety precautions, use and maintenance of tools and equipment of the trade, and codes of regulations of the trade.
- Collaborate with operations, health care, and treatments in order to enhance the learning environment of students.
- Provide written reports to, and may participate in, multidisciplinary treatment team.

**What You'll Need for Success**:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

- A valid Indiana teacher’s license, or statement of eligibility issued by the Indiana Department of Education.
- A specialized license or be willing to obtain one from the Indiana Department of Instruction.
- Must test negative on all drug screenings.
- Upon hire, must attend, participate in, and successfully complete in-service training programs (at least 40 hours annually, including mandatory certifications such as CPR, personal protection, etc.).
- Specialized knowledge of and ability to instruct and work with students at several developmental/behavior levels.
- Ability to evaluate educational, vocational, and developmental performance and progress of students.
- Ability to create and provide a positive learning environment conducive to and supportive of individual growth and development.
- Ability to provide appropriate documentation of each individual student’s educational and behavioral progress.
- Ability to actively participate in professional continuing education and training as instructed and approved by supervisor.
- Ability to work under emergency situations.
