**The Position**

**Relationships**

This is a full-time position located in Boston area. This position will report to the head of In vivo Pharmacology at Novo Nordisk in Boston.

Internal relationships include working closely with technical staff & other members of the scientific leadership team; regular collaborations with members of other research departments in Boston; & frequent interaction with project managers & other colleagues in Denmark, Oxford and Beijing. Individual may be responsible for indirect reports or contingent workers.

Individual will interact with external research collaborators, both academia
- & industry-based.

**Essential Functions**
- Major contributor to research projects through hands-on in vivo work within obesity and cardiometabolic disease areas, in vivo pharmacology, involving highly complex activities, receiving mínimal guidance
- Extensive pharmaceutical industry experience with executing rodent in vivo workflows and experimental designs with ethical considerations
- Technical expertise in in vivo techniques including animal dosing and handling, ICV, in-life measurements, sample collections and necropsies is required
- Experience with mini-pump implantations and telemetry surgeries is highly desired
- Lead research projects (target, biology, or technology-related) involving coordination of multiple experimental activities and groups
- Expands the capabilities of early target discovery through the generation of new target ideas, evaluation of biology or methods, and implementation of technologies that add value
- Responsible for ensuring realistic project timelines and deliverables and works closely with local or global project managers
- Analyzes and interprets complex data with high degree of sophistication, drives conclusions, and next steps
- Experience with in silico analyses and large datasets is highly desired
- Author internal reports, protocols, and external publications
- Effectively communicates and collaborates across global sites and guides project strategy by providing expert input to cross-functional project teams
- Represents the organization at scientific conferences and global meetings by authorship and publication of scientific papers and patents
- Maintains a strong understanding of theoretical knowledge and a connection to the external scientific community through continuous evaluation of relevant literature
- Leads cross-functional experimental teams to achieve project goals, mentor junior staff, and provide training
- Influences the research pipeline by recommending, presenting, and championing new targets or methodologies
- Works with Department Heads and Scientists to ensure better practice sharing and implementation within the research environment

**Qualifications**
- 15+ years’ relevant experience required, or a master’s degree with 10+ years’ relevant experience, or a Doctoral degree in with 4+ years’ post-doctoral and/or industry relevant experience can be considered
- Extensive pharmaceutical industry experience with In vivo rodent dosing via several routes of administration, intracranial injections, perfusions, necropsies, blood collection, PK/PD studies and model characterization is required
- Experience working with rat models systems, samples collections and necropsies is highly desired
- Surgical skills and experience with in vivo imaging is highly desired
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills
