**Job Description: Receptionist**

**Job Summary**:
Under the general supervision of the Office Manager, the receptionist will assist EVCOT Staff by coordinating communication, both medical and financial, to pet owners and by proactively managing and coordinating the owner's account. Receptionists act as a primary conduit for the transmission of information between providers and patients, updating patient information, performing visit processing, check in and check out functions, accurately processing payments, and acting as a liaison between clients and EVCOT Staff.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Answers all calls in an efficient manner with professional phone etiquette
- Advises callers and clients on the cost of examination, financial policies, and driving directions.
- Demonstrates clinical triage expertise, the ability to obtain vitals and weight of patients, and outstanding customer service.
- Fields questions and inquires about services and triage..
- Knows common drugs and protocols and be able to explain them to clients.
- Establishes initial client records and ensures that clients fill out initial paperwork completely; answers any preliminary client question regarding care or finances.
- Handle calls from pet owners. Resolve the reason for the call or route to the appropriate staff person.
- Performs financial transactions including initial payments and additional payments as requested by the veterinary team. Provides seamless financial checkout when patient is discharged.
- Represents EVCOT in a professional, ethical and reputable manner at all times.
- Collect, assess, and triage information concerning the patient's medical status from the referring veterinarians including records, lab results and radiographs/ultrasound.
- Maintain positive, cooperative relationships with other employees.
- Perform other duties as requested by veterinarian or lead on duty.

**Special Working Conditions**:

- Ability to be confident around pets commonly treated at EVCOT.
- Client needs and work volume may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job. This position requires special hours including working weekends, evenings, overnights and holidays.
- The noise level in the work environment is moderately high.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
- Requires sufficient ambulatory skills in order to perform duties while at hospital.
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
- Requires good hand-eye coordination, finger-hand-arm dexterity with the ability to reach and grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate medical equipment.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Associate is routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.

**Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities**:

- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of and ability to use computers with demonstrated keyboarding skills.
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred.
- Experience with answering phones and greeting clients and customers in person.
- Knowledge of and ability to use computers for patient billing.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to think independently and demonstrate good problem solving skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and to collaborate with a variety of staff.
- Cash handling and accurate credit handling.

**Experience, Education and/or Training**:

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Previous on-the-job training and animal care experience preferred.
- **Must have experience as a receptionist in the veterinary field.**:

Pay $21-25 per hour depending on experience. Additional $2/hr differential for hours worked between 10p-6a. Additional $2/hr differential for all hours worked Saturday and Sunday.
