Join the Cowell Center at an exciting time We have recently reorganized and expanded our team. The Director position has been modified and will now report to the Associate Vice Provost for Student Health, Counseling and Well-Being. The position will supervise four Assistant Directors and will oversee a collaborative leadership model to best support the staff and better serve our students. In the past year we have significantly expanded our team and offerings, including a new Therapist in Residence program and expanded group therapy. It's a great time to join a healthy and collaborative team and we are seeking an innovative, collaborative and intentional leader.

**Position Purpose**:
The Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is a senior leader within the Cowell Center and is responsible for providing overall direction, management and clinical leadership and supervision to the culturally diverse and multi-disciplinary Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) staff. This position is both accountable and responsible for ensuring that CAPS vision, policies and practices are in alignment with departmental and Santa Clara University's vision and values. The Director of CAPS is administratively focused and will also provide direct clinical services to a small client caseload. CAPS is committed to the values of multiculturalism, social justice, and student learning and is dedicated to providing culturally informed, mental health services for SCU's diverse student population. This position facilitates the psychological well-being of the student body and supports best practices in of mental health services to students while supporting the vision of the University to make student learning a central goal by facilitating the psychological well-being of the student body.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Assume primary clinical leadership and administrative responsibilities of CAPS, including direct and indirect supervision, as noted below.
- Monitor the evolving mental health needs of students and initiate the development of new services and programs to meet them.
- Provide clinical expertise and knowledge to both those supervised and to the AVP.
- Serve on the Cowell Center Management Team.
- Integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion into all levels of CAPS' programmatic and clinical policies and practices.
- Meet regularly with the AVP and convene and coordinate the CAPS Management Team to establish and implement collaborative decision-making processes that facilitate staff input and communication on matters related to Cowell Center functioning.
- Keep abreast of legal liability issues relevant to the provision of psychological services and work to ensure compliance with highest ethical standards and legal mandates in all areas of service delivery.
- Develop, update, and ensure adherence to the Center's policies, procedures, and regulations and individually observing all policies and procedures.
- Coordinate recruitment, hiring, onboarding and retention of new CAPS staff.
- Provide leadership, direction, and support to directly, and indirectly, supervised staff including establishing performance goals and expectations.
- Conduct annual performance evaluation processes for those directly supervised and maintain oversight for all clinical staff performance processes, including the coordination of peer/360 reviews.
- Create and manage staff job expectations, including but not limited, to outreach/liaison responsibilities, phone consults and caseloads.
- Provide leadership to CAPS staff in ways that promote mutual respect, trust, and support of individual strengths; Effectively disseminate information to staff.
- Provide and coordinate opportunities for staff's continuing education/professional development; Encourage and support participation of staff in appropriate professional development offerings and work with individual staff to establish and monitor their professional development plans and timelines.
- Provide ongoing training, updates, consultation, and troubleshooting with Electronic Medical Records to clinical and support staff, in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Operations.
- Oversee processes to effectively coordinate services for students within the integrated center; specifically between SHS and CAPS. Provide opportunities for formal and informal cross discipline consultation in accordance with best practices.
- Implement ongoing evaluation of CAPS services through the CAPS Satisfaction Survey to assess quality of services and identify areas of strength and potential growth.
