**Job Summary**:
Responsible to the Director of Rehabilitation Services to assist the physical therapist with the administration of a medically prescribed physical therapy program for assigned patient/clients. Function under the direct supervision of the physical therapist responsible for a specific patient’s/client’s care. Assumes responsibility and accountability for providing physical therapy modalities and treatment procedures as determined by a treatment plan of care established by a physical therapist and in accordance with established facility and departmental policies and procedures while maintaining the highest degrees of quality care. The age of patients served ranges from pediatrics to geriatrics.

**Essential Functions**:
Provision of services
- The Physical therapy assistant (PTA) shall provide services only under the supervision and direction of a P.T. and in accordance with accepted standards of practice.
- PTA shall not interpret referrals; perform initial evaluations, problem identification or diagnosis for physical therapy; develop or modify a plan of care established by a P.T. establish a discharge plan or document the discharge summary.
- The PTA may modify a specific treatment procedure in accordance with changes in patient status within the scope of the established treatment plan.
- The PTA shall provide the physical therapy intervention in a manner that is consistent with the examination data, the evaluation, and the plan of care established by the P.T..
- The PTA will document, on an ongoing basis, services provided, responses to the services, and changes in the status of the patient or client relative to the plan of care.
- PTA shall refer inquiries regarding patient prognosis to a supervising physical therapist.
- Works cooperatively with other patient team personnel in maintaining standards of professional physical therapy practice and interdisciplinary teamwork.
- May be assigned to orient staff and students.
- Participates in performance improvement and program development activities, which includes providing input into the budgetary planning process, contributing to cost effectiveness of services, and maintaining positive relations with all customers.
- Participate in special department/clinic functions as assigned by the director.
- Responsible for submitting accurate charges for service provided.
- Must consider cost and necessity of supplies with the delivery of care for each patient.
- Achieve productivity targets.
- Responsible for safe use and care of all therapy and office equipment used. Must maintain knowledge of equipment and report malfunctioning equipment.
- Supports and conduct one’s self in a manner consistent with customer service expectations.
- Demonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission of Morrison Community Hospital.
- Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations.

**Qualifications**:

- Has graduated from a physical therapy assistant associate degree program accredited by an agency recognized by the Secretary of the United States Department of Education or the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation, and approved by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation (IDPR).
- Has successfully completed the examination authorized the IDPR or has letter to test.
- Has a current Illinois license to practice as physical therapy assistant or successfully completes the exam within 90 days of hire.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
- Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring.
