Job Description: Fire Truck Mechanic

Overview

As a fire truck mechanic, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of fire trucks and other emergency response vehicles. Your role is crucial in ensuring the reliability and readiness of these critical assets, which are essential for protecting lives and property in the community.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on fire trucks, pumps, and related equipment
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using specialized tools and equipment
- Repair or replace faulty components, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems
- Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with manufacturer specifications and safety regulations
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment to support efficient operations
- Participate in ongoing training to stay up-to-date with the latest fire truck technologies and best practices

Required Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, with technical training or certification in automotive/diesel mechanics
- Extensive experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty vehicles, preferably fire trucks or other emergency response vehicles
- Strong knowledge of fire truck systems, including pumps, aerial devices, and specialized equipment
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and resolve complex mechanical issues
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to quickly diagnose and address equipment failures
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair instructions
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety and quality
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with fire department personnel
- Valid driver's license and the ability to operate fire trucks and other emergency vehicles (preferably a commercial drivers license)

Work Environment and Schedule

Fire truck mechanics typically work in a garage or workshop setting, with the potential for some outdoor work when servicing vehicles. The job may involve exposure to various weather conditions, loud noises, and the handling of heavy equipment. A flexible schedule is often required, as emergency repairs may be needed outside of regular business hours.

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
