Ensures the provision of instruction through the design and implementation of Physical Education training activities and services specified in Individual Habilitation Plans and Learning Activity Center programs. Maintains and submits documentation of training, services, and progress as directed. Provides physical education (PE), health, recreation, and activities to promote healthy lifestyles. Maintains the safety of individuals in a structured environment with a focus on active participation, skill development, and progress on goals and objectives.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:

- Implements PE lesson plans, training, behavioral, and relevant service objectives as outlined in each Individual Habilitation Plan (IHP) and supervisors’ instruction.
- Designs PE training activities centered on individuals’ IHPs and Learning activity Center (LAC) programs and submits plans as outlined by LAC operating procedures.
- Maintains the health and safety of all individuals while sustaining a calm, non-defensive, supportive attitude during crisis or potential crisis situations.
- Exercises good judgment and employs approved techniques to manage crisis situations.
- Follows specified program for documentation of activities and progress as out lined by IHPs, policy, and supervisor’s instructions.
- Maintains continuous focus on training while supervising individuals using the least intrusive methods possible. Fosters skill development and independence for all individuals during all PE activities.
- Follows written and oral directions, reads, and comprehends materials, produces accurate written documents, and demonstrates ability to follow and present a curriculum.
- Assists individuals with daily living skills. Provides assistance to individuals, as necessary, in the areas of toileting, personal hygiene/grooming, feeding, socialization, communication, and other planned activities.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles and practices of training and instructional techniques, social interaction, and good work habits.
- Maintains all resources, materials, and PE equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Works on an as needed basis.

**MARGINAL FUNCTIONS**
- Demonstrates the ability to do and understand all aspects of the PE Instructor position.
- Demonstrates the ability to function in the capacity of Instructor and follow all guidelines.

- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative in a PE setting by facilitating active participation of all individuals in meaningful activities.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism in all aspects of the job, including displaying courtesy and sensitivity in all contacts and professionalism in all contacts and managing difficult situations effectively.
- Ability to coordinate with other staff, departments, volunteers, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.

**EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS**:

- High School diploma or equivalent
- Current and valid Texas Driver’s License and driving record
- Six months experience working with individuals with IDD (or related disorders) in a training or educational context.

Pay: $15.00 per hour
