**Position Summary**

The Solar Construction Manager will be responsible for significantly growing Civic Works’ single-family solar installation program with a focus on expanding access to solar for low
- and moderate-income Baltimore residents. Working under the Solar Program Manager they will collaborate to develop Civic Works’ mission-focused in-house solar business line and solar construction team. As the development of the in-house solar business line progresses, the Solar Construction Manager will transition into a hands-on project leadership role managing the solar construction tram and overseeing the execution of all solar projects from initial site assessment to Permission To Operate.

The Solar Construction Manager will be responsible for managing on-the-job training participants from Civic Works’ Solar job training program. This will include instructing, coaching, and tracking the performance of participants while on worksites. Additionally, the Solar Construction Manager will be responsible for ensuring that proper safety standards are adhered to by all solar staff and trainees.

**Primary Responsibilities**:
**I. Solar Business Development**
- Collaborate with Solar Program Manager on continuing development of solar business line design and long-term strategic planning.
- Identify key solar hires and support recruitment and interview processes for these positions.
- Monitor program development progress, track milestones, and adjust plans as needed to meet objectives.
- Lead the in-house solar business through its evolution from program development to implementation, progressively taking on a more direct role in operational management as the team transitions.

**II. Solar Crew Hiring and Management**
- Recruit, supervise, lead, retain and continuously develop the skills and abilities of solar construction staff.
- Utilize an equity and inclusion lens in managing staff members and the program.
- Identify and support career advancement plans, identifying internal and external opportunities for professional development.
- Work with the staff members to set and communicate performance standards that are specific and measurable. Provide regular feedback and coaching.
- Create a strong team environment that fosters cooperation, interdependence, commitment, and the incorporation of lessons learned
- Evaluate all aspects of team effectiveness and continuously improve program operations. Analyze data in order to identify areas for improvement.
- Make sure all team members are well integrated into Civic Works and the Center for Sustainable Careers department.
- Approve timesheets and paid-time-off requests.

**III. Oversee Training & Development of On-the-Job Training Participants**
- Ensure the solar business adheres to Civic Works’ mission-focus and provides curriculum and instruction to trainees during the on-the-job training period.
- Provide technical training support to participants as needed during the on-the-job training period.
- Support ongoing feedback for on-the-job training participants on their progress in meeting the expectations for employment in the solar industry.

**IV. Potential PV Site Assessment**
- Determine possible interconnection locations and document the electrical room panel.
- Document any rooftop shading or obstruction that can affect solar production and size.
- Select suitable racking solutions, and locations for the array and inverters.
- Survey and document the roof, and manage contractors as needed.
- Review completed design documents and provide feedback to 3rd party engineers.

**V. Site Management & Support**
- Work closely with the Solar Program Manager to efficiently direct subcontractors and vendors to ensure quality.
- Ensure all aspects of projects are safely built to specification, meeting codes and industry best practices.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients and subcontractors.
- Manage project schedules, submit progress logs, and ensure timely, safe and code compliant installations.
- Monitor and address site safety while proactively resolving problems.
- Advise the Solar Program Manager on procurement as needed.

**VI. Commissioning**
- Commission and document PV systems.
- Collect commissioning documents from subcontractors (i.e. Master Electrician).
- Configure and test monitoring systems and troubleshoot monitoring issues.

**VII. Project Closeout & Troubleshooting**
- Create punch lists and confirm resolutions.
