JOB TITLE: Animal Program Coordinator (Part-Time, Non-Exempt)

Hand2Paw provides paid internships working with rescue animals as a way to strengthen connection, compassion, and community for young adults from marginalized communities including those experiencing housing insecurity or foster care involvement.

SUMMARY:
The Animal Program Coordinator will be responsible to provide compassionate and attentive care of the animals living at Hand2Paw, maintain a clean healthy environment for the animals and the community who visit the space, facilitate animal related lessons/training with youth interns and manage fostering programs, adoption promotions and medical care for animals, as well as other duties as assigned. Our current office location is 5757 N 5th St, Philadelphia, PA 19120, and houses between 10-20 animals, which includes cats (all ages, from kittens to older cats) as well as small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas etc) and reptiles (turtles, lizards, etc).

REQUIRED DAYS/HOURS: Sunday-Wednesday 10am-3pm _*Some holidays required*_

STATUS: Part-time (20 hours per week)

SALARY/HOURLY RATE: $20/hr

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Work effectively, efficiently and in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.
- Treat all animals humanely and compassionately at all times maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and care.
- Collaborate with the program team to create a progressive and productive work environment while maximizing the efficiency of animal flow.
- Actively work to maintain high team morale.
- Assist in creating, implementing and training on animal care guidelines and protocols.
- Develop marketing and promotional materials to promote H2P animals for adoption including regular social media posts, taking videos and interfacing with Petfinder and ShelterLuv.
- Enter rescue data into Shelter Animals Count.
- Coordinate and facilitate adoptions of H2P animals.
- Manage the safety net fostering program, along with working collaboratively with other rescue partners H2P may be a foster placement for.
- Execute and document animal progress notes utilizing Shelterluv animal management system and enter in pertinent information regarding animals in care.
- Update Shelterluv notes to ensure all animals available for adoption are on the website with complete descriptions.
- Create educational materials, infographics, and wellness/care protocols for animal care and adoptions based on current best practices.
- Research evolving husbandry practices and medical standards to ensure our animals' needs are continuously met.
- Create & present educational materials and/or lessons for program participants.
- Establish new partnerships with veterinarians, pet stores and other companies that offer discounts and donations to rescue organizations.
- Ensure youth interns perform at their highest levels while adhering to all proper safety and humane guidelines.
- Be observant of the health and behavior of the animals in the shelter by rapidly identifying any health or behavioral problems or conditions and immediately reporting them to the Executive Director.
- Daily, thorough cleaning and spot cleaning of habitats for all animals.
- Providing food, clean water, and enrichment items for the animals.
- Assist in the upkeep of supplies through tracking inventory, stocking, laundry and washing of bowls etc. and communicating with the Dir. of Operations regarding supply ordering.
- Assist with janitorial duties including but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, disposing of trash, etc.
- Follow organizational dress code (long pants (khakis/jeans), closed toed shoes).
- Report to work punctually.
- Assist the team with additional tasks as needed.

EXPERIENCE, ABILITIES AND QUALITIES DESIRED
- Affection for animals, concern for their welfare, and a willingness to accommodate animals in the workplace is necessary to succeed in this position.
- Ability to communicate skillfully, effectively, and compassionately with team members & youth interns.
- Experience with Shelterluv, Petfinder, and Shelter Animals Count.
- Strong writing skills including grammar and spelling.
- Proficient in using Canva.
- Knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram.
- Strong problem solving skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability and initiative to work with mínimal supervision and direction.
- Knowledge of animal behavior and common medical concerns is required.
- Comfort and ability in working with animals of unknown disposition and those who may exhibit medical and or behavioral problems.
