- ABOUT HOWARD GARDNER COMMUNITY CHARTER SCHOOL_

Howard Community Charter School (HGCS) is a nonprofit charter school located in Chula Vista, CA. Our charter is held by the Chula Vista Elementary School District whose Board has recently approved our renewal petition for 5 more years. HGCS serves approximately 200 youth ages 5-14 and is a TK -8 elementary/middle school. Our focus is on Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory. At HGCS teachers help students achieve the Common Core State Standards. We offer an Electives class once a week on Wednesdays in Art, Yoga, Robotics, Drama/Theater, Dance etc. HGCS promotes the character traits of passion, imagination, adaptability, perseverance, courage, self-awareness, and curiosity.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

Under the direction of the Howard Gardner Community School Board, to serve as the instructional leader for professional and paraprofessional staff assigned to the site; responsible for management of all aspects of the school operation, including supervision of all instruction, supervision and evaluation of certificated and classified employees, communication with the school community, supervision of school in-service programs; and to do other related work as required.
- Administers, supervises, and coordinates an elementary and middle school program at assigned site.
- Provides for continuous supervision and evaluation of the prescribed instructional program.
- Provides orientation and in-service training for professional and paraprofessional staff.
- Interprets school programs to the community and directs and supervises both certificated and classified personnel assigned to the site.
- Is responsible during school hours for the health, safety, welfare, and morale of all personnel, both pupils and employees.
- Consults with pupils, parents, and teachers in regard to public progress, welfare, discipline and attendance.
- Oversees the essential auxiliary services, such as health, recreation, food services, transportation and maintenance.
- Oversees all budgetary activities of the school.
- Is responsible for implementing the district’s comprehensive evaluation program for certificated employees and for the evaluation of paraprofessional personnel.
- Implements and evaluates student behavior management groups.
- Follows rules, regulations, and policies; positively contributes to implementing changes.
- Provides assistance in the recruitment and selection of professional and paraprofessional personnel.
- Performs related tasks as required.
- Seeking partnerships with other local school leaders and organizations.
- Actively seeking opportunities to further develop leadership and coaching skills for staff.
- Serves as the administrator at IEP, School Site Council and other stakeholder meetings.
- Oversees all reporting to the district, county, and state level.
- Knowledge and advocate for Restorative Practices
- Proven record of increased student academic and SEL achievement
- Ability to build rapport with Board of Directors and Authorizer
- Responsible for all authorizer compliance requirements and deadlines
- Familiar with charter school trends and political movements
- Exercising marketing and recruiting efforts to increase finances and enrollment

**EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS**
- A current valid California Administrative Services Credential, or equivalent, authorizing administration at elementary and/or secondary school level.
- Master’s degree in education, educational administration, nonprofit management, law, counseling, social work, psychology or a closely related field and/or seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of education, at least two of which were in an administrative/leadership capacity.
- A teaching credential in elementary and/or secondary education with at least five (5) years of classroom teaching experience.
- CLAD or BCLAD required.
- Charter School and Title I experience preferred.
- Bilingual preferred

**QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS**
- Knowledge of research findings and recent trends in the education of elementary/middle school pupils.
- Administers the business operation of the school in accordance with district policies and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships within the community with lay and professional individuals and groups, and with parents.
- Ability to work effectively with professional and paraprofessional personnel.
- Training and/or experience in providing educational opportunities for gifted as well as disadvantaged pupils.

**HEALTH STATUS**

Must have a TB clearance as required by state and federal regulations.

**TRANSPORTATION**

Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and have a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to HGCS insurance carrier.
