**Major Functions**:
**Illustrative Duties**:

- Conducts land use surveys in the field. Interprets aerial photos, maps, and archival information needed to assemble planning studies.
- Initiates and completes research projects, including plat, deed, parcel, and site plan history, with minimum supervision.
- Assists in the drafting of regulations governing the use and development of land.
- Prepares written reports and presents planning information and data, graphically and orally to elected officials, Boards, citizens, and agencies.
- Assists other Planners in the preparation of land use plans and other elements of the planning program.
- Attends training exercises related to the performance of duties.
- Performs related work as required.
- May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
- Must adhere to Federal, State, County, and Local ordinances.
- Responds to emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**Minimum Requirements**:

- Bachelor's degree in Planning or related field.

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:

- Demonstrates basic knowledge of planning principles, practices, and standards.
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of Comprehensive Plans, Land Development, and Zoning Regulations.
- Knowledge of fact-finding and research techniques necessary for planning.
- Knowledge of land use regulations.
- Ability to gather data and present it verbally, graphically, and in writing.
- Ability to prepare various planning studies, land use plans, or elements thereof.
- Ability to read and interpret legal descriptions.
- Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, and local planning legislation, rules, and regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to work under stressful situations.
- Ability to perform project management in an organized and deadline-oriented manner, under the supervision of the Land Development Manager.
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office, GIS, and other applicable software.
- Ability to learn county software, including AMANDA.

**Mental Demands**: Ability to read and comprehend technical and professional journals, manuals, reports, abstracts, statistical data, and legal documents. Ability to perform general mathematical functions. Ability to write comprehensive reports relaying detail, data, and information. Ability to speak publicly. Ability to analyze data and develop conclusions.

**Environmental Demands**: Generally inside work.

**Physical Demands**: Sedentary work. Visual acuity (peripheral vision, depth perception) to operate motorized vehicles. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull a minimum of 10 pounds.
