POSITION DESCRIPTION

PUB AFF 110. The Urban Revolution: Space and Society in Global Context
(Winter 2024)
This is an upper division course that satisfies major requirements.

Course Description. Three hours of lecture, one hour of discussion section. Introduction of theoretical frameworks and conceptual methods used by urban studies and planning to study cities and urban transformations, and historical and contemporary analysis of urbanization to learn about key urban processes such as agglomeration, segregation, gentrification, and suburbanization. Students learn about institutions and policies governing transportation and housing, and forms of community organizing and civil society that seek to redress urban inequalities. Introduction to key theories of space and utopian visions of urbanism. Letter grading.

Appointments are generally made by quarter for the following term dates:
Fall: October 1 - December 31
Winter: January 1 - March 31
Spring: April 1 - June 30

Responsibilities include revising the syllabus for existing courses and developing lectures and other course materials; lecturing; holding regularly scheduled office hours; being responsive and helpful to students; developing assignments, papers, and/or exams; grading assignments, papers and/or exams; and managing teaching assistants.- Letter of interest
