Industrial Sewing Machine Operator

House of Holmes is looking for an Industrial Sewing Machine Operator that will be responsible for creating quality cut and sew products. This involves cutting, measuring, sewing, ensuring the efficient manufacturing process of products.
Job Summary:
The Sewing Machine Operator plays a crucial role in the manufacturing process by operating sewing machines to stitch fabric pieces together and create finished products. They are responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining sewing machines, ensuring high-quality stitching, and meeting production targets. This varies depending on the skill level of the sewer. The Sewing Machine Operator should have a good understanding of different sewing techniques, be detail-oriented, and possess excellent hand-eye coordination.
**Responsibilities**:
1. Machine Setup and Operation:
- Set up sewing machines according to the specifications of the product and the sewing process.
- Thread the machine, adjust tensions, and select appropriate needles and threads.
- Operate sewing machines to join fabric pieces, following established patterns and guidelines. Repair têxtiles or apparel as needed.
- Ensure the machine is running smoothly and make any necessary adjustments during operation.
- Base machine knowledge includes single needle and overlock machinery.
2. Stitching and Finishing:
- Perform various stitching techniques, such as straight stitches, zigzag stitches, or decorative stitches, as required by the design.
- Monitor stitching quality and adjust machine settings to achieve consistent and accurate stitching.
- Trim excess threads, remove basting stitches, and conduct any necessary finishing touches.
- Draw guidelines or markings on materials or work pieces using patterns or other references.
3. Quality Control:
- Inspect sewn products for defects, damage, or stains, such as incorrect stitching, missed stitches, or fabric irregularities.
- Identify any quality issues or deviations from specifications and promptly report them to supervisors.
- Maintain a high standard of workmanship to ensure finished products meet quality standards by measuring dimensions of completed products or work pieces to verify conformance to specifications.
- Compare physical characteristics of materials or products to specifications or standards.
4. Production Targets and Efficiency:
- Meet daily production targets while maintaining a high level of accuracy and quality. Record if necessary or requested.
- Optimize sewing processes to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with the production team to ensure a smooth workflow and timely completion of tasks.
5. Machine Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance on sewing machines, such as cleaning, oiling, and changing needles, if applicable.
- Identify and troubleshoot minor machine issues and make basic repairs or adjustments.
- Notify supervisors or maintenance staff of any significant machine malfunctions or breakdowns.
6. Workplace Safety:
- Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
- Operate sewing machines and related equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
- Report any safety concerns or hazards to supervisors or the designated safety personnel.
**EXECUTE ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AS ASSIGNED.**
To be considered you must have:
- Industrial sewing and or home sewing experience of one or more years required
- 2 years industrial sewing experience preferred
- Must be able to pass a sewing test
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Detail oriented, proactive and able to complete tasks independently with mínimal supervision
- Advanced time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment
Preferred Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- Experience sewing in a fast-paced manufacturing facility
- Bilingual English/Spanish pay differential offered
Pay: $14.00 - $19.00 per hour
