REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF EARLY CHILDHOOD

REGULAR WORK DAY: Monday-Friday from 7:50 am - 3:30 pm

Occasional early morning and evening events

Weekly Monday meeting 3:30 to 5:00 pm

St. Matthew’s Parish School’s Early Childhood Program is looking for a talented Early Childhood educator who is passionate about working with preschool-age children. We believe young children gain a sense of identity and self-worth when they explore at their own pace and experience success at their developmental level. Learning at this age is through experiential interactions with materials, ideas, and other people. Play is one of the major ways in which young children learn about the world around them. Through play, children learn about language, develop intellectual concepts, build social relationships and understandings, strengthen physical skills and deal with stress. Children foster independence, strengthen skills, and master concepts through hands-on learning experiences. Our program nurtures growth in all areas of human development: cognitive, physical, social-emotional, creative, and spiritual. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES, AND SKILLS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

- Be familiar with and act in accordance with the School's philosophy and policies as stated in the Preschool Parent and Employee Handbooks
- Assist and take initiative in the following:

- The supervision of children indoors and outdoors to ensure their safety and well-being, moving with children as they change location
- maintenance of a clean and safe environment, staff lounge as well as classroom and schoolyards
- The development and implementation of a developmentally appropriate (DAP) and emergent type curriculum which provides a safe, secure, and stimulating learning environment that meets the entirety of children's individual needs, including areas of social, emotional, cognitive, physical development, and creative expression
- Meet the maintenance needs of the individual child (i.e. feeding, diaper-changing, toilet training, handwashing, nose blowing). Plan and provide snacks/nutrition in accordance with the school's policy
- Communicate effectively and cooperate with other staff members
- Become familiar with routine room paperwork (i.e., “Ouch Report,” Lesson Planning)
- Set regular job-related goals and objectives, in cooperation and coordination with supervisors, to further personal and professional growth. Follow through on self-initiated and assigned tasks
- Be responsive to and collaborative with relevant co-teachers
- Provide supportive assistance to new substitutes and volunteers, as well as other new staff
- Be flexible to meet program needs, including assisting teachers and children in other groups as needed
- Able to respond quickly when a situation warrants immediate action
- Support Director of Early Childhood with planning during the summer as needed
- Participates in the school community, including faculty committee work, open houses, retreats, attends weekly faculty meetings and other school duties
- COMPENSATION_
- Anticipated base compensation is $70,000 - $95,000, depending on experience_

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is an exempt position. Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes, but not limited to, medical and dental insurance (national plans), short term/long term disability, life insurance and retirement plan (5% match and up to an additional 4% match for a total of 9% match with immediate vesting). **Requirements**:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

- Bachelor's Degree in Child Development or a related field
- Associate Teacher or Master Teacher Permit from Commission on Teacher Credentialing preferred
- Minimum of 12 units completed in Early Childhood Education or the equivalent (as stipulated by Department of Social Services State Licensing)
- Minimum of two years teaching experience in a licensed Child Care Center
- Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of: early childhood education, child growt
