**Duties**:
**AREA DESCRIPTION**

The purpose of the position is to perform a full range of complex curatorial support work in a museum. Work may involve substantial element of the work of the professional field but requires less than full knowledge of the field involved.

Major duties include, but are not limited to the following:

- Serves as team member, and at times a team leader, on curatorial projects such as the elimination of cataloging backlogs; organization of photograph and archival collections; production of finding aids and location guides; photo documentation of collections; and the reorganization of storage areas.
- Recommends appropriate methodology and procedures to accomplish projects.
- Instructs others in appropriate techniques and procedures.
- Monitors day-to-day work on projects.
- Prepares progress reports for the supervisor.
- Identifies, independently sorts, and classifies objects that are similar to previously identified objects.
- Catalogs museum objects and enters cataloging data into the designated National Park Service catalog program.
- Maintains museum records, including accession, catalog, and loan records, in accordance with National Park Service standards.
- Completes the accession of new objects and insures that required paperwork and files are complete.
- Updates standard operating accession procedures as needed and instructs other staff and volunteers in their use.
- Conducts or assists others to conduct the annual inventory of museum collections and contributes as required to the annual Collections Management Report.

- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

**Qualifications**:

- Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume **MUST** clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
- To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

- **EXPERIENCE**: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience related to the operation or management of a museum or similar collection of valuable objects. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material, or other experience related to the position to be filled. This experience includes activities such as: unpacking, processing, and repacking museum objects; identifying, labeling, and preparing objects for storage or display; cataloging objects into a museum database; preparing, maintaining, and organizing curatorial records; performing routine cleaning of museum objects per established standards; assisting with installation, repair, and rehabilitation of exhibits. You must include hours per week worked.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the number of graduate level semester hours (or equivalent) earned towards your graduate degree and divide by 18 semester hours (or equivalent). Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.
