Incumbent serves as Dispatcher for the Central Dispatch Department, responsible for receiving, logging, dispatching emergency, non-emergency calls, and processing related documentation.

**DUTIES**:
Receives, prioritizes, and processes all emergency-related and 911 calls, gathering information, determining appropriate response, dispatching local emergency personnel accordingly, and maintaining and tracking current status of emergency response personnel. Provides emergency medical dispatch (EMD) instructions and directions and utilizes mapping program to locate 911 calls.

Provides pre-arrival instructions as necessary using emergency call handling system protocol.

Receives and processes non-emergency/information-related calls, providing assistance and

information, directing caller to appropriate individual/department, or forwarding call to voice

mail.

Receives calls for department personnel and transfers calls or takes messages.

Records/logs calls, activities, and information manually or with computer, maintains logs of

radio messages received/transmitted, and prepares related documentation and records.

Verifies, enters, maintains, and retrieves IDACS/NCIC and CJIS information for County and

other law enforcement agencies. Receives and processes requests for records pertaining to, but not limited to criminal histories, warrants, driver's licenses, driving records, vehicle registrations, missing persons, and stolen property.

Monitors radio frequency activities of various law enforcement and public safety agencies within County and surrounding counties.

Performs related duties as assigned.

**I. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK**:
High school diploma/HSE.

Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain required certifications and training, including, but not limited to Power Phone Total Response, certifications to include Public Safety

Telecommunicator course, Emergency Medical Dispatcher, Law Enforcement Dispatcher, Fire

Service Dispatcher, T/CPR, IDACS/NCIC, and NIMS.

Ability to meet all Department hiring requirements, including passage of a drug test, written

exam, typing test, and criminal background check.

Practical knowledge of area law enforcement, EMS, and fire demands, and ability to effectively perform essential duties of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Working knowledge of local laws, rules, and ordinances as they are used in the dispatch

prepare/complete all required reports within department deadlines.

Ability to train new employees if directed and may be required to complete Communications

Training Officer course as delegated.

Ability to perform essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of self and other individuals.

Ability to obey all written and verbal orders and directives from superior officers.

Ability to deal swiftly, rationally, and decisively with potentially violent individuals and

sense.

Ability to meet highest standards of customer service, utilize excellent communication skills,

follow all established department protocols, and accurately document rapidly delivered and

disorganized information into CAD reporting system.

Ability to use and interpret signals, codes, and law enforcement, fire, and EMS terminology and language.

Ability to type with speed and accuracy and properly operate a variety of standard office

equipment, including computers, fax machine, copier, printer, scanner, and telephones.

Ability to properly operate a variety of specialized department equipment including computer aided dispatch system, radios, recorders, and cameras.

Ability to accurately enter and maintain records for County and other law enforcement agencies in state and federal databases.
