Summary:_**
- The **Paralegal Journeyman** shall provide support services to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Office of Support Operations (OSO). OSO is responsible for the processing of requests under the Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts, the management of all agency records in accordance with the Federal Records Act, maintaining the security and safety of all SEC facilities, as well as property and equipment management and overall building operations.**_
Duties and Responsibilities:_**
- Review and prepare documents under the FOIA for release to the public, including the redaction of materials to be withheld, and duplicating materials, as necessary.
- Ensure released materials do not contain information exempted under the applicable statutes or other non-releasable information.
- Maintain cases and case files following established procedures and timelines.
- Review program records for responsiveness and suggest releasability determinations.
- Input requests and appeals following established procedures.
- Draft correspondence to requesters from established templates.
- Prepare and maintain case files as assigned.
- Maintain communications with POC’s to ensure efficient delivery of responsive documents.
- Abide by all SEC applicable regulations, publications, manuals, and local policies and procedures.
- Adhere to the Freedom of Information Act 5 U.S.C. -552, as amended, and the Privacy Act, 5 U.S.C. -552a, as amended.
- Other duties as assigned relating to the efficient operations of the Office of FOIA Services.

Minimum Qualifications:_** (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)**
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related labor category field such as Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or Criminal Justice from an accredited college, university, or educational institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Minimum four (4) years of recent Paralegal experience with at least (1) year experience processing **(not submitting)** FOIA/PA requests at a state or federal agency.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Professional Suite and FOIAXpress.
- Demonstrated experience working remotely to include utilizing collaborative platforms such as WebEx or MS Teams.
- Experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- Ability to provide favorable credit history.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:_**
- Must have documented experience processing (not submitting) FOIA requests and have a keen understanding of FOIA exemptions and when to use them.
- Must have experience reviewing and redacting records using FOIAXpress.
- Must be client-driven possessing excellent communication (written &verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently in a demanding environment.
- Must be organized with great attention to detail.
