**Job Summary**:
R&L Spring in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin is partnering with Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship to bring in summer apprentices. You will have the opportunity to train as a Youth Apprentice to learn all aspects of maintenance, production operations and manufacturing processes.

The High School Youth Apprenticeship is designed in such a way to allow students to experience a “hands-on” approach to learning in various facets of the manufacturing industry. Students have the opportunity to learn in a modern production facility where they will be introduced to valuable knowledge in the field of metal spring manufacturing. This program is intended for students interested in pursuing a career in the manufacturing field while gaining a strong technical foundation. This opportunity will allow you to develop your trade with a leader in the manufacturing industry and build skills for a rewarding career.

The program is designed as a year-long 450 hour program which may include three different experiences in manufacturing areas such as production machine operations, maintenance, and manufacturing grinding operations and processes. You will have an assigned mentor for each area within the manufacturing processes production pathway.

**Duties/Responsibilities**:

- Learns and shadow mentors to gain entry to mid-level knowledge in how to perform machine operations, maintenance and grind.
- Provides support and back up for other members of department as needed by leadership.
- Is aware of Maintenance Industry Standards.
- Assures compliance with 5S and housekeeping standards.
- Participates in CI activities - processes, results, and cost savings.
- Shadow and learn how to setup and operate simple machining operations including but not limited to lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
- May perform basic welding tasks.
- Learns basic troubleshooting of control systems circuitry.
- Learn technical self-study programs for career development.
- Follows all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines.
- Situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions.

**Required Skills/Abilities**:

- Must have effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all personnel.
- Basic computer skills, ability to follow instructions, both written and verbal.

**Education and Experience**:

- High School Junior or Senior Currently enrolled with Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship

**Physical Requirements**:

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands/fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, ascend/descend or balance to heights that may require a ladder or lift; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move no more than 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to use close vision and color vision. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.
