Construction Inspector

STV is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector for work for our Transportation group in Maryland. We have specific needs in Northern MD and Central MD.
- Responsibilities:- Inspects construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications
- Acts as consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution
- may serve as the only inspector on a construction project or assist in overseeing construction inspection activities for very large and/or complex projects within a district or conduct statewide construction inspection activities for ongoing airport improvement projects
- Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for approval of all work.
- Work requires contact with contractors.
- May perform materials tests and manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites.- Essential Duties:- Attends pre-construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees
- Calculates payments due contractors for work completed
- Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans or airport closure plans and ensures compliance with approved safety standards; inspects barricades as required, and moves traffic control devices and barricades- Requirements:- Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalence certificate
- 2 years + related experience
- Desire to learn technical engineering/heavy highway construction related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning
- Works on complex issues and exercises sound judgement in direction to contractor for resolution to construction issues.
- Supervision on lower tier inspectors required
- Monitors CPM schedules, material clearance, progress payments, MWBE monitoring and reporting, sketch book and approval of time and expense of lower tier inspectors
- Applicants may substitute education in civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 credit hours for each year of the required experience, up to a maximum of three years- Desired Certifications / Interested in pursuing:- Effective oral and written communication skills

- Hot Mix Asphalt
- ACI Concrete Field Technician Level 1 Certification
- Maryland State Highway Green and Yellow Erosion and Sediment Control CertificationCompensation Range:
$52,754.00 - $70,339.00
