Director of Talent and Engagement

**Job Description**:
Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources (or designee)

FLSA Status: Exempt

School Classification: Certificated

Pay Schedule: Range 17A ($150,637 - $178,289)

Work Schedule: 220 days/12 months

Location: Redlands Office and Remote Office

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, the Director of Talent and Engagement position encompasses a broad range of responsibilities aimed at enhancing organizational effectiveness and compliance. The director leads strategic human resources (HR) projects, manages employee relations and performance evaluations, ensures compliance with legal standards, resolves complaints and disputes, oversees recruitment processes, and oversees and maintains staff qualifications. The role requires collaboration across departments to foster a positive work environment and implement efficient HR practices, ensuring the organization meets its goals and maintains legal compliance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

Overarching Duties and Abilities for All Sage Oak Directors:
Primary Focus
- School-wide and Larger Community Focus_
- Builds a shared vision among educational partners, with a focus on aligning departmental objectives with the school's mission and vision.
- Leads the department with a comprehensive approach, considering the interplay between departmental needs, the schools' overarching goals, and community engagement.
- Keeps abreast of educational laws and trends relevant to their portion of the department. As a legal expert for their specific area, offers advice and implements strategies in alignment with the guidance from the Assistant Superintendent, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.

Budget
- Sets priorities for school needs in relation to the Local Control Accountability Plan
- Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, develops and maintains department budget.

Staff Performance & Professional Development
- Manages and conducts evaluations for department staff, providing support, direction, and coaching to evaluators.
- Oversees the corrective action processes for department staff, ensuring alignment with organizational standards and goals across all departments, maintaining the highest level of performance and compliance across the organization.
- Collaborates with supervisor to set individual professional goals/actions that are in alignment with schoolwide goals. Develops a plan to execute and achieve those goals.
- Utilizes department-specific performance data and stakeholder feedback to identify professional development needs. Works with the Assistant Superintendent to design and oversee the implementation of targeted development programs.

Develops Department and School
- Develops innovations that will support the schools’ growth and needs and promote sustainability and longevity across all departments; Determines school and department needs and proactively develops solutions using creative problem solving and a high level of customer service to the larger community, staff and students.
- Manages and updates policies, procedures, and department manuals to reflect school goals and legal requirements, maintaining consistency across the board.
Oversees hiring of quality department staff and works collaboratively with human resources to follow school policy and procedure.

Educational Partner Engagement
- Develops a strong presence, collaborative relationship, and engaged connectivity with authorizing districts, the Board of Directors, Sage Oak staff and families, and the larger community through both in-person and virtual means.
- Attends meetings and conferences as needed

General Human Resources Responsibilities
- Leads assigned projects and support internal teams with strategic planning and staffing, employee relations, performance management, corrective action processes, leaves of absence, investigations and Title IX, accommodations, staff training, hiring and recruitment, credentialing, and professional development
- Leads an interdepartmental team to complete assigned projects on time, to specifications, and with accuracy and efficiency from start to finish, garnering the buy-in necessary to ensure successful implementation through clear communication
- Ensures the human resources department develops a positive school culture; Preserves the employer/employee relationship; Ensures the workplace is free from discrimination and harassment for all staff
- Leverages the schools’ human resources information system to track and measure necessary personnel metrics in an effort to support data-driven decisions, as well as streamline departmental operations
