The laboratory supervisor is responsible for overseeing all clerical and technical duties, ensuring that case workflow is operating consistently, and testing turn-around times are being managed specimens appropriately. They oversee quality control checks of patient reporting. They have direct line supervision of all laboratory staff, managing employee schedules and training, as well as, resolving any professional conflicts that may arise. The supervisor troubleshoots any problems with workflow and communicates directly with management regarding exceptions, varied timelines. etc. They are also responsible for managing regulatory activities, enforcing consistent adherence to required regulatory guidelines to ensure the highest quality and consistency of services. While maintaining job functions, the supervisor also interacts with other departments to ensure an optimal workflow is consistently achieved and all standard laboratory procedures and policies are followed and updated.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
- Provide an exceptional experience for all patients and team members
- Consistently practice AIDET
- Wears PPE at all times and use proper technique when handling chemicals, bodily fluids, and other hazardous material
- Supervises staff and oversees specimen processing, quality control monitoring and oversees workflow activities
- Adheres to the laboratory’s quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed
- Documents all corrective action taken when a system deviates from the laboratory’s established performance specifications
- Manages employee schedules and resolves employee relation issues
- Assists with the tracking, accumulation, and computation of performance metrics
- Ensures lab has adequate inventories of reagents and supplies
- Acts as first point of contact on questions and keeps team informed of new processes and general updates
- Develops new protocols and SOPs to address issues or to improve efficiency, quality, and safety within the department
- Effectively manages complex cross-functional operational activities within and outside the lab with a high degree of independence and strong managerial judgment
- Present quality control data and trends
- Manages the training of new hires
- Works cross-functionally with various departments
- Proficient in troubleshooting problems and successfully maintains workflow in the lab
- Assists as needed to perform other related duties and special projects to support the laboratory as required
- Understand MSDS and know where to locate
- Serves and protects the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and JCAHO standards
- Enhances laboratory and hospital reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
- Actively participates in process improvement with assigned department and address gaps directly with countermeasures
- Adheres to Benson Hospital organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies, and standards.
- Other duties as assigned

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE**
- Knowledge of laboratory safety and quality control procedures and regulations
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Internet for business use
- Drive for Results (Service, Quality, and Continuous Improvement) - Ensure procedures and processes are in place that lead to delivery of quality results and continually reassess their effectiveness to achieve continuous improvement
- Communication - Proficient verbal and written communication skills. Willingness to share and receive information and ideas from all levels of the organization in order to achieve the desired results
- Teamwork - Commitment to the successful achievement of team and organizational goals through a desire to participate with and help other members of the team
- Customer Service Focus - Demonstrate a focus on listening to and understanding patient/customer needs and then delighting the patient/customer by exceeding service and quality expectations
- Pass Color Blind Test

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- MT or MLT registered
- Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology plus two years experience
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) Certification or ability to complete
- CPR/BLS per the Benson Hospital Policy
