**Responsibilities**:

- Enforce laws and ordinances to maintain public safety and order
- Patrol assigned areas to deter crime and provide a visible presence
- Respond to emergency calls and provide assistance as needed
- Conduct investigations, gather evidence, and make arrests when necessary
- Write detailed reports documenting incidents, observations, and actions taken
- Conduct traffic stops and issue citations or warnings for traffic violations
- Provide assistance and support to victims of crimes or accidents
- Serve warrants and subpoenas as required
- Testify in court proceedings as a witness

**Requirements**:

- High school diploma or equivalent (some agencies may require a college degree)
- Completion of a certified police academy training program
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to pass a thorough background investigation, including criminal record check and polygraph examination
- Excellent physical fitness and ability to meet established physical agility standards
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick decisions in stressful situations
- Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process
- Proficiency in the use of firearms and other law enforcement equipment

**Skills**:

- Animal handling: Ability to handle animals safely and effectively in various situations
- Loss prevention: Knowledge of techniques to prevent theft or loss of property
- CPR: Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in emergency situations
- Surveillance: Proficiency in conducting covert observations and gathering information discreetly
- Conflict management: Skill in resolving disputes or conflicts peacefully and effectively
- Criminal investigation: Knowledge of investigative techniques and procedures used in criminal cases
- Report writing: Ability to write clear, concise, and accurate reports detailing incidents or investigations
- Leadership: Ability to take charge and guide others in challenging situations
- Law enforcement certificate: Possession of a valid law enforcement certification or the ability to obtain one
