**PRIMARY PURPOSE**:
Perform various duties to assist in the bilingual/ESL instructional program. The Director of the Bilingual/ESL Department will determine campus and grade level assignment based upon the comprehensive needs assessments of the Bilingual/ESL program.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education/Certification**:

- High school diploma or GED
- 48 or more college credit hours and/or successful completion of the three areas of assessment and classroom observation as required by the NCLB Act; OR
- Highly Qualified Paraprofessional Certification, ESC 5

**Special Knowledge/Skills**:

- Ability to speak and read Spanish strongly preferred
- Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use current computer technology

**Experience**:

- Experience in similar position interpreting English to Spanish and Spanish to English or any other language preferred
- Previous experience working with English Language Learner students in an instructional setting

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**:

- Assist teachers in supervision and instruction of bilingual and ESL students.
- Assist administrator in the bilingual/ESL instructional program, as assigned.
- Supervise students as assigned.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school policies and regulations concerning primary job functions.
- Keep updated schedule of services to the identified bilingual/ESL students.
- Submit the instructional support schedule to the bilingual/ESL Director and Federal Program Director at the beginning of each school semester (August and January) or anytime changes occur in the aide’s schedule. Instructional duties shall be in support of the bilingual/ESL students.
- Perform instructional duties with bilingual/ESL students as assigned by the Principal/Assistant Principal/Teacher. Instructional duties may include small group instruction, one-on-one instruction, and monitor/support students during workstation time or computer lab time.
- Participate in staff development training programs and faculty meetings at the campus level and offered by the Bilingual/ESL Department.
- Communicate and collaborate with assigned bilingual/ESL teacher/s and other campus staff to meet the bilingual/ESL students’ needs.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**EQUIPMENT USED**:

- PC (Word, Excel, all other computer programs used in the classroom)
- Copier, typewriter, and audiovisual equipment or any other required current technology
